I have been researching liability insurance for a new owner operator with very little mileage or experience.I used a Kenworth 660 as a rig even though I told the agent that I havent actually bought it yet.
I thought it was impossible to find it but not so.
I got a quote from a reliable agent about $6300. The agent didnt specify if that is for 6 months or a year,I'll find out tomm....what do you think??That was for 1 mill in liability.
That is enough to get a DOT no.??I know they wont grant authority until they see the liability policy. What about load insurance??
    Most brokers want that ,no???
What do you guys pay for your yearly policies??? Specify van or flatbed and by policy type if you could.
Thanks for the info, it helps a lot.

You need to understand that there several factors that play into rates. Where you live, where you run, your safety score (once you get your authority), experience, credit score, greed, etc., play into rates.

Last year I believe that I paid $4,200 for just the liability and cargo portion of the policy. That is with NO accidents and a clean mvr. Does the rate you were given include collision or comprehensive?

hey that's a better price than I'm getting right now what company are you using to insure yourself? I had spoke with progressive they told me $5000 down and 2200 a month. Then I called fed usa they told me 2700 down and a thousand two hundred a month. Keep in mind I still have not made the two years ,I have a year 9 months are there any good companies for rookies lol?

I just got a quote from a local insurance joint $7200.00 a year. Check your local agencies you might save a ton rather then trying these big mega insurance companies.

I called about just non-trucking liability + physical damange w/$1k deductible, they wanted $2,500 for the year.

I think $10k a year is about normal for a new-in-business, maybe, but Progressive I think will only let you have a 1,000 mile radius.

About the $10k, it's just from what I've read on here. Maybe that's with all the insurances, the liability, cargo, non-trucking, and physical damage, But that also has to do with how much your truck is worth. They might take like 2-3% of the value of your truck, and times that by 10. Or something like that.

You should be able to get under $8k/yr if you have a little driving experience and a decent record. I opted to remove collision insurance from my policy, at this point the chances of me getting in a wreck are pretty slim and a minor one I could just hit the salvage yards and repair myself cheaply. If I got into a major one (which I consider very unlikely) I guess I'd just part out my truck and get a different one if the wreck didn't put me out of business anyways. Saved me $2500/yr. I guess if I had a newer truck maybe I'd see it differently.

I had 2 accidents last year some lady slammed into my truck on jersey pike coming outta NY, cop was in favor of her even tho it was her fault. And the other some lady in a minivan decided to place herself between the curb and my trailer and when the tail swung it grinded her van not at fault. So i think for having 2 accidents 7k isn't too bad of a quote they gave me. Stay away from progressive those guys wanted 27,000 a year, i hung up on them right after i choked.
