The start of my first year with Swift.

I'm not real sure what the future holds for me. Right now I'm going to stay around the barn and help my wife with our horse boarding business. Things are picking up and she can use the help. It provides us with a good living so I don't HAVE to drive a truck. I still may buy a truck and haul hay for myself and a few friends. It won't be an expensive thing. I certainly won't work for Swift again. As Werewasi said, I have too much self respect to play that game again. I may also turn to firearms instruction to make a few extra bucks.

I enjoyed my time on the road and I got to see parts of this great country that I would never have gotten to see otherwise. I met some great folks and this forum provided me with some wonderful contacts. As of yesterday I was still so pissed about what transpired that I was done with the entire trucking thing. I've calmed down now and I'll still be reading over the forum and making comments.

Total miles driven since 1/1/13- 40,748

Total loads- 92

Ontime- 100 %

Gross Pay year to date- $15,319.

Net pay year to date- $10,674

Cost of School- $3,900

Cost of Memphis Debacle- $1000

This does not include the day to day costs of eating, cell phone expenses, tools, Sat. radio subscription.

You will not get rich driving for Swift.

 

I would not go back and drive for a big company. I might go back and drive for a small company or something specialized. I think if I were younger and hadn't already put up with enough B.S. in life, I might have been willing to put up with more. As it is I have many other options to make a living. I guess it all depends on the individual. When things worked right it was great, but those days were few and far between. Go try it, give it at least six months.
