A question for all u experienced truckers who have traveled everywhere and seen the country. I want to know which part of the country is booming right now? Where are all the jobs? Where are people moving to? What part is the most active? Texas? North Dakota? Cali? New York? Vegas? Utah? Seattle? Minneapolis? Jersey? Maine? Georgia? Florida? Pennsylvania?

If you're willing to relocate; move to a state with good freight lanes plus no personal income tax, so you can keep more of your paycheck. There are 9 states with no personal income tax; my two favorite with good freight lanes are Texas and Nevada. That's one reason I just purchased a new home in Nevada. I also looked at average good weather year round. Tennessee also is excellent for good freight lanes; look at the truckers atlas and see all the interstates crossing through Tennessee.

    Florida
    Nevada
    South Dakota
    Texas
    Washington
    Tennessee
    New Hampshire

Florida is a very tough state to find a good driving job especially South of I-4. I have lived here since 1997.

New Hampshire is also hard to find a good driving job as 99% of all the DC's in New England are in MA. and the only trucks rolling up & down I-93 & I-89 are Canadian trucks. I have friends that live there and most of the mega-carriers don't even hire North of Nashua.

    To elaborate further:

Don't pick a state just because there isn't a state income tax. As already said, jobs in Florida are rather scarce. The Mideast is where it's at, if you can tolerate the abrupt climate changes.

Good post, Chinatown. However, I'd reconsider locating in Washington state. Although there is no income tax, their sales taxes and B/O taxes don't make a great environment to run a business. Running freight out of Washington can be problematic and in the winter you have to plan on regular road closures on I-90 due to avalanches. It's a beautiful state and a great place to live, but for anyone wanting to locate in an active lane for loads I think Oklahoma, Texas, or other locals would be more profitable.

Texas is a good state. Illinois. The Dakotas because of the oil fields etc... For sure I can guarantee that Florida is not one of them. In fact it is probably one of the worst!
