We came across a posting on one of the load boards today stating this:
COMMENT 1 = MUST HAVE TWIC
COMMENT 2 = MUST BE REGISTERED WITH THE RAILROAD
I have my TWIC and I have registered at 3 of the Ports but have no idea what this might be?
Can anyone shed some light on what this means or what's involved?

Major railyards require registration in their system to enter . Some fingerprint you and a scanner at the gate reads your fingerprint .
Flightline and Hanadarko Thank this. -
Ok, that makes sense...I wonder how you go about setting something like this up....

I always thought it had be done through the carrier . I carrier has to be registered and then registers the drivers .
QC sent me to a BNSF yard in Houston once . They told me the yard had all the info needed to register me . I was supposed to take a container to Texas City and swap trailers driver that was unloading in Pasadena and bring that empty back to KY . I was at BSNF at 7 a.m.. The driver started unloading in Pasadena at 8 a.m. and was empty before I got registered . He brought the empty to BSNF and we swapped there . QC never paid me for the wait time .Hanadarko Thanks this. -
Well in my case...I'm the carrier and I'm the driver...

I haul freight out of CSX in Worcester, MA and Norfolk/Southern in Ayer, MA. My company did the required paperwork for CSX.
Norfolk/Southern I did myself. I had to show my drivers license to the yard supervisor, my release (pickup) number and the trailer I needed to grab. The supervisor then created a pass for me that I show the guard on the way in and out.Hanadarko Thanks this. -
registration isn't really a big deal, most of the time if you just hand them your cdl ,they just put you in the system and WaLa you're in the system for the "next" rail yard. That's been my experience anyway.
Sometimes if you go to a new one they'll want to see your cdl until they recognize you, then they'll just ask for your cdl # going in and out. -
