My medical card expires soon. I am not working now but plan to start applying in the beginning of August. I'm out of town but family said a letter came from the DMV that if a new med card isn't sent to them by July my license, the CDL part, gets a hold put on it.
Since I am not working now is that a problem? I called the DMV and they told me that if that hold gets put on it all I have to do is once I am back in town and get a new med card, bring it to them and there is no reinstatement fee.
Im mosly wondering if it looks bad once I start applying for jobs to have had a lapse in my license or not. Thanks for the help. I'm sure some of you have been in this situation before.

It would depend on if the DMV listed as disqualified or suspended, those would show up on your DMV record when a company pulled your record. That might look bad. Call them back and ask them.
-
Ok. Good thinking. When I called them I think they called it one of those but I don't remember which. Ill call them tomorrow and ask. Last time I talked to them they acted like it was no big deal, but then again, they don't hire for a trucking company.

i strongly advise getting the medical redone if you plan on going into the industry soon or again. you dont have to get it done in your home town just by a one certified to do one and fax a copy of it to them before it expires. If you dont have the money for it than you obviously dont have that option. it may effect the way a company judges you though.

I would do what he said that way its current and this prevents the state from de-rating you to a "commoners" licence. Most concentra's can do CDL examinations and are used by the Major fleets.
-
You mean that while I didn't do anything wrong to get it suspended, a prospective company might look down at me because they might think I wasn't taking my career seriously? That's what I'm worried about.
I can get one in any state? Any idea approximately what they cost? -
You can get a medical card anywhere and most states you can self certify online on the states DMV website you'll find a link on the CDL page.
Google... anytown, state DOT physical
Then try to find a nearby walkin clinic in the results.
$40-$50 bucks, problem solved. -
Yeah you can just go to a Concentra or somewhere and get a physical. Don't have to be emplyed..
But...judging from what you said the letter said..which is odd to me because you don't have to have a valid ME card to have a valid CDL, you just cant use your CDL without an ME card....but the letter said it will just suspend your CDL version of your license, which means you will still have a VALID drivers license, it just won't be a CDL. Nothing should be on your record as to being suspended or revoked or what not.
But, it still doesn't make sense. I still just say screw it, go pay the $40 or whatever it is to do a physical, get a current ME card. -
What state is your CDL in?
CA does just like the letter says.
Just find a clinic and have them do a DOT physical it costs about $50 and send the paperwork to DMV -
so does Ohio, $3.50 to re-instate.
