Interesting observation. I've noticed in the news that that actually seems to be an increasingly common cause of accidents up here...

An impact between a passenger vehicle and a CMV at high speed is sometimes spectacularly fatal for the driver and passengers in the passenger vehicle.

Two people meeting at a roundabout is usually walk away with minor injuries at most even involving a rig.

After seeing some of the dumb things people do, I'm thinking that lessening the seriousness is worth it, and as people get used to them, they aren't that big of a deal.

People complain about everything, even lessening fatalities, if it causes or seems to cause more minor accidents.

I'm a fan of roundabouts, both in a car and a truck. We've had some notoriously difficult intersections where I live replaced with them and it's much easier to get through the intersection now.

Yeah, seems to be quite a few being added up US 41/45 mostly from Oshkosh to Green Bay.

Ah, now I know where those beautiful hedge bushes came from I found clinging to my ICC bumper.

Most around here aren't two lanes, many are new and drivers don't understand how they work.
There is a two lane on the coast between Astoria and Warrenton on hwy 101 in Oregon, it's got signs on both sides saying not to drive next to trucks but idiots do it a lot anyway, I go through there often and really have to watch it.
Lots of tourists on the PAC Coast Highway gawking at the scenery.

That makes sense. They probably had fatalities at that 4 way in the middle of nowhere.

Pretty sure it's on purpose. That's why the inside curb is low and sloped so as not to cut a tire or wreck a rim. They made it so trucks take up both lanes preventing "most" idiots from trying to squeeze by when they see half a lane opened.

I absolutely HATE roundabouts! The state of Utah claims that they make intersections much safer. And possibly, as 52 has stated they are safer from a fatality standpoint. But I personally think they cause many more accidents. UDOT, Washington County and City of St. George, are all terribly in love with them.

In fact, 1-15 at Exit 4 has 2 of the things that southbound truckers have to go through to get to the Flying Pilot Jay Hook half arsed so called truck stop.

Sure, there is enough room for big trucks to negotiate those roundabouts. BUT when you add the fact that it is a terribly busy interchange, it serves an area populated by senile blue hairs, local mentally challenged, and inexperienced kids, all trying to occupy the same place at the same time, it is a recipe for disaster.

Admittedly, this interchange has always been screwed up. In fact, almost every interchange on I-15 in Washington County Utah is screwed up in one way or another. It seems that UDOT, when they built the freeway, never planned beyond the traffic that was expected for say late 60's early 70's.

Because of the population boom here, coupled with the geological challenges faced by the UDOT planners, it is likely to always be screwed up.
