5 guys apply for a job, same amount experience each and clean records, there's some "luck" involved. When I said luck, I really was thinking more about right place right time as well. Hard work and diligence pay off, but some people just get lucky.

No luck. Between the five guys with the same experience and clean records the one who is the most presentable, likeable, can sell his skills set the best, etc. gets the job.

Luck is when you hit the lottery.

Chase, I think you misread my post.... the top paragraph was a quote from someone else. I totally agree with you and that is what I am trying to tell the new drivers. If you aren't totally prepared to drive over the road then don't sign up for trucking school with the hopes of going straight to local driving. The chances of it happening are very remote. A lot of newbies don't understand that and then they spend $6000 on school and are forced to go over the road because they can't get a local gig. After about three months when they can no longer handle over the road they quit and now still owe lots of money and have no job.

I try not to sound negative by explaining that. I'm just trying to save these new guys lots of time and money. The only source of info they have is what the recruiters are telling them and they have a knack for making it sound really good and convince these guys to sign on the dotted line.

Ok, misunderstood you, lol. I just laugh a bit when I hear guys on here complain about their lousy company when they don't bring home 1000 dollar checks the first month, or guys that just have to get into the industry, but refuse to go OTR to start. Guys act like their the first trucker to have a wife/kid at home, lol. Me? I WANT to go OTR. Can't wait, lol.

Quick question tho. I hear all over the place that the small places pay the best, but do these small companies do OTR, or are they mostly local or regional?
