Yesterday I noticed that a pair of trailer my tires that developed a flat spot. I was in Barstow and asked the guy at Love's to turn the outside tire 180 degrees on the rim to help balance out the flat spots.
At first he looked at my like I was speaking Chinese, but when I explained it again, he happily said no problem. I'm not sure if he had never heard of doing this or if he just misunderstood me at first. It makes no difference, he did a good job and made a good impression on me. Today I came back through going the other way and the same guy was there to do the re torque.
I've never used Love's before and am always leery about getting anything done at a truckstop. I'm pretty sure I still wouldn't let them mount steer tires but I might take a chance in other tire work in the future.

It is where I have bought all tires lately. My local one is pretty good. Their prices can vary too, so you have to watch that.
Also to note, stopped in one down in MS *I think* after finding a nail in the tread. It was kind of close to the shoulder, but not right on the edge or dangerous. The tech was busy but took a look & said he is not allowed to patch it. Loves guidelines are to replace the tire. He was nice enough to give me directions to a local shop who did not share the same guidelines. Appreciated the honesty & that sort of thing builds loyalty. -
I've got a spare mounted on the rim in a tire rack under my trailer. I have a virgin yoko that has been a problem tire.. ..well it got to the point the closed shoulders wore completely out on it, and about 500 miles later it was smooth no tread at all.. ..and I wheel it into the Love's at Falkville, AL telling the kid what I needed.. ..so I asked what that is going to cost, he says it's like $30 and some change but he'd see what he could do on that to help me out.. So he swaps out the wheels and rings it up $12 and some change.. I couldn't have done it myself for that, good job.. ..I have bought tires from them before too. It's very seldom you see a big chain tire shop or truck shop cut some slack on a simple job like that. Most times they have their minimums and they stick to it. You can haggle with some and some will have none of it, some, like this kid offer up to do the job for a good price. Those are the kind you never forget and would be glad to do real business with - now the Loves just north of Atlanta, forget it..

I bought my drives from the Love's in VA on I77 down by NC, the manager was working in the tire shop and I asked him for the price on a set of new drives, he went into car salesman mode and I stopped him by saying, "look, I understand you're trying to sell tires, but I've already got a price on a set down in MS and was only checking to see if you could beat that price..." He went from car salesman to intense computer screen scrutinizer...
"I can beat it", he says after a few moments.
"ok, can you beat it by enough to make me feel good about buying some tires today??"
"Yeah", he says, "I can make you a pretty good deal......"
$3,377 when it was all said and done.
They can do pretty good if they want to.
I checked on the price of a steer tire at the Petro in N Las Vegas last month....
It was ridiculous and they weren't interested in negotiating.
That's "ok", cause the Southern Tire Mart is just across the street.
I got the tire for about half of what the Petro wanted. -
Good to know, thanks

I see those Mayfield trucks up here all the time with lumber. I will keep them in mind when down that way.

I never felt ripped off when I left a Loves Tire shop. The T/A and Petro's, however, have always made me feel ripped off after I left.
CellNet Thanks this. -
If you blow a trailer cap and it takes out the mudflap the TA will charge pretty close to a hundred bucks to straighten the hangar and reattach the flap, the Loves will usually throw it in with the deal if you're buying a tire from them....CellNet Thanks this.
