In Canada, you can park on ramps and often have to in this neck of the woods because there ARE no truck stops or rest areas. Always park on an on ramp, though, not an off ramp so cars are slowly speeding up as they go past you, not slowing down.

In the US, we always parked in a legal area unless we just could not find one, then we'd park behind or in front of other trucks in the same boat, usually on the on ramps or off ramps to the parking area, which was full. We were never bothered.

There are a lot of trucks parked at the Moberly Wal-Mart right off of 63 and 24 every night. There is a Shell truckstop down the road on 24 and Morley (Business 63).

But yes I have parked many times on a "On Ramp", never a off ramp.

I think I have only parked in a TS overnight 10x's in 16yrs. I prefer on/off ramps or rest area's.

I have slept on an on-ramp twice, once in North Carolina after running out of hours and no parking at this TA there. One other time was in Minneapolis area, there was no signs on the onramps where I was so I parked there after getting woken up at 6am by some guy who owned Gold Gym there saying I need these parking spots for my customers. I laughed as I looked across this giant mall complex parking lot with 600 spots, my truck and his car were the only cars there.

The TS fill up by later at night so that is why I get up at 0100 to make sure I can get a parking spot. It sucks, but when you pull in to a TS at 1500 most TS have lots of parking then.

I just started a thread on this very subject: parking on an on-ramp (not on the shoulder, but off in the dirt. This was in Indio, CA, out in the Mojave Desert. It cost me $160 and 1 1/2 points. DOT said, "This law is being more vigorously enforced due to the possible threat of a terrorist attack by means of a truck loaded with explosives detonating in a suicide bombing attack." I guess the Mojave Desert must be considered a prime target of terrorists.

    HFC Thanks this.

Seems like Indiana and Cali seem to really enforce this more than others. Ive never had a problem when i had no real choice but and on ramp. Specially if the road is closed and the truckstops are five wide in the no parking spots...ha ha ha
