Hello. In the past three month I have been issued two DOT health cards from different doctors to perform work for specific companies. I'm healthy, but over weight and I have been at the same weight for many months. Today I went to get yet another DOT card from another clinic at the request of a different company (Every company want you to get a new card). The nurse practitioner said that based ONLY on the fact that I am over weight she will only issue me a four month DOT Card, and after four months I have to complete a sleep apnea study to get a regular DOT health card. I am very upset by this. I have no symptoms of sleep apnea. Please let me know what you would do. Thank you.

First you need to go back and see that nurse again and ask her to show you
where on the federal form it has anything that requires her to do that. At this time sleep Apnea testing is not required.
I had one try that on my last physical.
I informed them they were not going to measure my BMI
she said she had too. Then I asked her to show me what line or box that was on the form. She said it wasn't on the form. I explained once again I was there for my DOT physical and if it's not on the required form I WAS not going to be tested or perform any thing that is not on the form. I left with my dot medical card. Don't play that junk with them

I have been waiting years to say this. I was prescribed pills for a severe injury. Pee test got me. Doctor denied writing the script. I'm not going to loose my insurance, He is going to a new career. The little guy won for Once. He hit my truck. I was stopped at the time. Never send your Nephew. Like a bad episode of some Mob film. He learned how to drive. I just watch & enjoy the young ones.

Doctors should make judgements according to the examination itself not the unqualifed opinions of carriers .
I have posted quotes of posts made by doctors on a medical forum saying they refuse to recommend sleep studies based on neck size or BMI only and they don't care what the carriers want .

Companys can set medical criteria they chose for their physicals, so long as the standards are not below the DOT minimums and that their doctors apply the standards to everyone evenly.

Really ? I have never heard of any form being used other than the standard DOT physical form . That has no mention of neck size or BMI .Drivers are asked in section 2 if they have sleep disorders , daytime sleepiness , or loud snoring . If they don't check that BMI or neck size shouldn't be cause for a sleep study .

    What?

You were prescribed pill for an injury, then the doctor denied writing the script?

Didn't the pills come in a bottle with your name, the doctors name and the pharmacy on it?
