CARB: In order to make the lives of California citizens better and healthier, we're asking that laws be passed stating that all trucks must come from the future. . . and actually clean the air that goes into it.
By the way, am I the only one utterly appalled by that tv commercial where all those children are going "tick tick tick"?
CA idling law??? Tickets? Enforcement??

I haven't seen them yet, but I am sure I will soon.

The rantings of St. Al of Gore notwithstanding, I do believe global warming is in fact real and happening, but people are NOT to blame. Here's why...
I imagine that one could logically conclude that the average temperature of a planet would vary in direct proportion with its distance from the Sun. Right?
Now explain this. Every astronomical publication of have ever read since I was a kid showed the temperature of Venus as about 100 deg. higher than that of Mercury.
How is that possible, since Mercury is closer to the Sun than Venus? The only way that could be possible is through global warming, since Venus does have a thin atmosphere.
But wait a minute. How could global warming be possible if there's no people on Venus, since humans would find 900 deg temperatures somewhat intolerable?
That only leaves some sort of OUTSIDE influence, namely the Sun, unless St. Al of Gore and his band of moonbats would have us that humans are responsible for climate change on other planets as well. That might be the next weirdness to come out of his mouth. -
All I stated was that there is global warming. The source is not known to me. I can't say that I believe or disbelieve the people theory.
As you stated, the other planets have the same problem. I guess there are trucks there too.
So now we need to wonder, is the Sun having a bad time or what. -
Those who state global warming is not occurring are patently misinformed. The entire world knows it is happening. Denying it isn't going to do any good.

The average temperature for Venus is actually much higher than that. Venus has a uniform temp of 900 degrees. Mercury has a temperature of 1000 degrees on the daytime side but on the nighttime side it's 200 below zero.
Sorry. I love astronomy.
But all that carbon dioxide on Venus had to have come from somewhere. And certainly there are no people living there. I think it has to do with that Venus was once volcanically active and had moving continental plates much like Earth still does. In other words, natural causes. -
No, really it has been solved by the marketplace, and free enterprise. The governments (many) created this problem for us drivers. The market recognized the problem, and profit potential (of course). With a little work Cummins has developed a "Clean Idle" over-the-road engine that can be idled, for extended periods, and the the driver, nor the fine folks over at CARB, will loose a minutes sleep. A true win-win business situation has occurred. CARB, and the rest of the anti-idlers, gets cleaner air while we get to enjoy the comforts of a climate controlled cab. Yeah, for technology and entrepreneurship.
As stated in this Fleet Owners.com article.

God, how I wish it were this simple!! But the way the law is written, it does not allow idling for ANY commercial vehicle. Not even those that meet their freakin standards. If they will change it as the technology changes, for the benefit of the drivers, fine, but I don't think it is going to work that way.
-
The laws, if anything, are going to become more stringent on truckers. The answer for comfort and safety (getting a good nights rest in a climate controlled sleeper) is going to have to come from technology - ie the new Cascadia truck or the new Cummins engine, APU's etc. There are other alternatives as well - such as Firefly Energy, who's website has some interesting information on a potential solution. The American Transport Research Institute has infomation on their website listing current (as of Jan 2008 ) laws in all states.
I'd link these sites, but I'm not allowed due to lack of postings. -
Guy's Lady, will you post something to verify about the way the law is written as i have found exemptions that allow idling(optional NOX reduction systems on 07 and later trucks).and i have found nothing that prevents me from using my APU anywhere except within 100 feet of a school or residential area.as for the 07 and later trucks, the document i have from the CARB states the truck MUST have the special decal affixed to the hood identifying the optional NOX reduction system and if the truck does have an APU, the exhaust from the unit MUST go through the DPF filter of the truck.like i posted earlier,i got this info straight from the CARB website AND i've spoken directly with David Chen # CARB.if you read the entire legislation you will find the exemption i'm refering to.if i'm wrong, please show me where the law prohibits me from using my APU in CA.
