would love to know what you found out.... I am very interested in Oilfields, but like you, my Akita comes with or neither of us do.... -
Hello everybody! i just signed up...been lurking for a few days.
Here are my questions.
I like the idea of the crude hauling, but I take it that most of that is done in daycabs? Do any Crude haulers run sleepers?
Can anyone recommend any good water or sand hauling companies? It seems that my limited t/t experience may force me to do one of those first?
I have a Chevrolet high top van that can be setup as an RV pretty quick. I have a rooftop a/c and everything. Would I be abe to park it at a company yard or at a state park or something where I could plug into an electric supply?
I have read reports of it being dangerous down there. What are the dangers? Crime? Illegals? Fumes/gases?
Thanks for any replies...I'm sure I'll have more questions laterLast edited by a moderator: Jul 10, 2013

Is not dangerous INHO, but ppl here say all sorts of things. I am originally from Los Angeles is hard for me to compare, maybe you can be concerned if you were in the ghetto of San Antonio or valley area. Am not sure if you mean illegals like in danger, but if you do that should not be your worry. Most illegals are here to work and not cause trouble. The troublemakers in these areas will be the gangsters who are from U.S. But honestly I don't see danger here it is pretty clean cut, mellow and ppl are so nice. My only issues here are the heat ad bugs(specifically the Texas size roach)d o g Thanks this. -

Nearly all the lease road entrances have a check in guard. They document everyone and every vehicle that comes and goes. They're gated and most of the ranches and leases have the high 8'-10' fencing. I work nights and I feel fairly safe. I worry most about rattlesnakes, scorpions and tarantulas....ugh.
Arky Thanks this. -
heck i doint have to go on the lease roads to have scorpions...they are right friendly here and come visit daily INSIDE my apt.....LOL

I drive for a company out of Midland, and for us Big Lake might as well be part of the permian basin. Ive been as far S/E as Barnhart on numerous occasions. Big Lake is a small town, with a few companies that already have established buildings, maybe one or two new things going on. Big lake is busy, but it's nothing like Midland & Odessa area. The big boys are popping up new buildings all along I-20 between those two towns. If your job hunting, by all means your welcome to drive around Big Lake, but I personally would hit I-20 1st. When your here, 93.3 (hip hop) and 99.9 (rock) have adds for CDL jobs all the time.
