Sure the total weekly payment is the same, but last I heard, that's a 5 year lease for a new truck. With a 2007, it's a 1 year lease that pays the truck about 1/3 of the way off, plus that maintenance fund is yours and will be pretty fat if you don't use it. The bottom line is that the overall price difference is close to $150,000. That money saved will more than pay for any added maintenance/fuel costs of an older truck.

I would also note that 2006 and most 2007 trucks don't have DPF's and don't need DEF, and most of the bugs were worked out on those engines right before the switch to DPF (nightmare) engines. I've heard that very new trucks (2011+) are better, but I wouldn't want to be the guinea pig to find out. Warranty work may be technically "free" but it's slow, and every ruined week you have due to warranty work you'll still have that huge truck payment. New or used, you need a reserve fund either way.

We've all heard about bad experiences that can happen with a used truck or a new truck, but that ~$150,000 price difference means I have an extra ~$150,000 in my pocket to alleviate whatever bad experience I might have with my 2007 KW. Just my 2 cents.

When I was in orientation last week, there was a guy paying 1k a week on a 12 month note. He was coming from the legacy program. I don't see how people do it. You would have to run 3500 mi a week just to break even. I been back on choice almost a week, and I'm ready to bail. The rates are not there.

Hey big wheels well mpg is going down once again I'm at 7.39 I will say that the area I've been running doesn't help. I'm in the northeast running Maine, mass, ny, pa ct. That I-95 traffic is horrible lol

I went with a 2012 Volvo 780 I-shift and Tripak with 278K miles on it.......not new but not old......I start choice in early September. If all goes well then a few years down the road I'll be looking to move to a new truck....as for now, I tried to find the sweet spot between payment and dependability.....

06&07 trucks didn't have DPFs?? Are you sure about that?

As far as not using the maintenance fund on an 07, keep dreaming.

Figure on $1000 a month after the 5-600k mark. More if you buy tires that year. Unless you just want to run Chinese tires and hold it together at a bare minimum.

True that^ after all if your paying all the expenses why would you want them to pick your loads? Especially if there are loads with more profit than what they assign you

The miles aren't what matters it's the rates. If your looking to get rich yeah your right you should bail. But for people who enjoy the job more than money and having the freedom then who cares.
