Hey guys I'm getting ready to start Truck Driving School and am very interested in the regional run at Schieder. I was suprised a recent student could get a regional run especially one with tuition reimbursement. I'm a few months out from starting school so haven't called a recruiter yet was curious if anyone could give me the real lowdown on the runs and what exactly they mean by weekly home time.

    From the website:
This Regional truck driver position features weekly time at home, up to $48,000 per year* and a predictable work schedule. Plus, you’ll haul 50% no touch freight and average 300-400 miles per length of haul within a primary travel area of Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee and Louisiana.

    Thanks everyone.

Add IL, IA, WI, MI, OH, GA, AL, and MS and it's pretty accurate.

That actually sounds better like I would get more miles. I don't really care where I run I was wondering fi you really get home that much.

If you like 3 to 5 days On the road training then being put out there on your own you will love Schneider, and no ya not gunna get home either and regional isn't really regional it all the runs no one wants so the newbies get those. Like the worst highways you have seen. Other than that it is a job I suppose.

    #### lady, by now every one knows you dislike this company. Get over it all ready. So your kid screwed up and didn't push getting more training, which I personally don't believe, stop already. You don't like it, find him a different job already since apparently he can't do a thing with out you.

No I never said I dislike the company If you have experience its one of the best out there if your a newbie out of trucking school thats another story After no training much they can't hack and and quit after about a week like my son did. Basically thats why the turnover is so huge there lack of training the newbies

    Ok, let's try this again.

In the prev thread, I suggested that you compare the FMCSA data of some large companies that hire new drivers and train longer vs Schneider. I dont think you did that, so I will walk you through that now.

Now, I don't know how long these companies road train their new drivers, but I'm pretty sure it's several times as long as schneider. Probably several weeks longer in some cases.

    Roehl

    now here is Schneider (van)

this isn't the end all as far as evaluating companies, and the data can change. but if safety is what you're concerned about, it's a decent guide for what's been going on recently.

Also, I'm comparing apples to apples -- as in, large van operations. Roehl and averitt may be slightly better in in terms of safety data, but im guessing their road training time is probably closer to Schneider than the others.

Honestly the short training time is a plus to me. I'm not going to orientation till I feel comfortable driving the rig. I just need to learn how shcnieder does things. I don't want to live in someone else truck for 8 weeks making training pay I want to get my own rig and get out there.

You can put in for your time at home with your DBL. I do that on my first day back, I do my resets at home every Saturday I'm off by 2-5p start back on Monday morning at 8am. I run regional out of Dallas which I think is where OK DBL's are (could be wrong only been doing it for a month).
