Statin is for blood pressure? If so as long it is under control your good. Anti depressant I believe the doctor that is prescribing has to be willing to sign off you are under their care and not crazy basically before a company will hire you.

FMCSA 49 CFR Sub-section 391.41(b)(6) Hypertension must be less than 140/90 and maybe controlled with medicine.
FMCSA 49 CFR Sub-section 391.41 (b)(9) Mental Disorders. This is pretty detailed and depends on what the metal disorder is and when the last time the person had an episode. Bi-polar is really the only one they mention is a disqualifier right out of the starting gate. Most of the mental disorders are allowed except you get a one (1) year card and sometimes even require a yearly review by a mental heath expert with experience both the person and the type of work and the mental demands of driving.
I have a driver with PTSD. He is on meds and he has a two (2) year medical card.
The company doctor said all DOT really cares about is if the meds or mental condition will cause the driver to pass out, become overly tied, have problems with memory, reasoning, and/or judgment.Wanderingaimlessly and jlkklj777 Thank this. -
Hmmm. the clinic where I went said that taking ANY meds.. you only get a one years card.
Statins are also for cholesterol. My doc put me on them "just because your cholesterol is a little high".. only problem , they found statins cause diabetes in many women.... yep... now I'm on pills for just over the limit sugar.
Even with strictly watching my diet and hitting the gym 3x a week, my sugar would not drop until I quit taking the statins.....
One pill a day works nicely.... hoping to lower it eventually without the pills....

your doctor will know what pills wont allow you to drive, Some anti depressants just need permission from the prescribing physician.

Statins are for high cholesterol, if you have high blood sugar from one, try another. ALSO I can't stress this more, get a blood test every 6 months for the first two years if you are taking them, they will screw up your liver if you are taking one your body doesn't like. Docs will say this isn't needed but they are idiots and don't read the drug info from the drug companies about monitoring.
Overall the anti-depressant is the thing that may trip you up, I think there is a list of them on the FMCSA Medical site but the statin and other drugs to control blood pressure, glucose and so on are not a show stopper.
AND as I say this a lot - DO NOT LIE ON YOUR PHYSICAL FORM OR LEAVE OUT A DRUG YOU TAKE. -
Thanks for the replies and the concern. I can get a letter from my doc no problem and as for the statin my cholesterol was a little high but not bad. low dose.
lying is not something i would do in a case like this. not worth it.
Thanks again for the replies. they do not go unappreciated.
