OK guys, as you know I am no longer working for Millis. I left under good terms, or so I thought. A week ago or so I received a bill from Millis saying that I owe them $2440.00 for the cost of training and motel room. I anticipated something like this but hoped Millis would be a more trustworthy company, since my pay was never messed with and I never had to call payroll about errors, etc. On the other hand, this is why I requested copies of hotel receipts and kept every pay stub I ever received. After sitting down and going over the numbers, it turns out that they actually owe me money! Almost $1200.00 actually!
Based on this latest info about Millis, I felt I needed to warn you about their accounting practices so anyone wanting to go through their training can know what to expect. I am sure I wasn't the first to receive a bill because of their creative record keeping and I'm sure I won't be the last.
I am copying the letter I am sending them back so you can see for yourself (with my name removed). I can post the bill if anyone wants to see it.
Hitman Thanks this. -
Keep us updated on this please

I have been randomly calling in and asking for my remaining balance to double check things. I am not sure if your cost was different than mine, but I had to pay 2500 for class training etc, than another 2500 for the over the road training which is suppose to be forgiven at 1 year of employment from date of hire.
There are couple of things that have got me chapped about this so far. For one I ended up getting charged hotel for 21 days even though I checked out and in over weekends, still got charged for all that. My hotel bill was over 1k, say the least I am still pissed about this as much as when I found out I was charged that much. If I knew that I would of drove there each day would of been cheaper for me to so, was a little over a hour drive.
I would also suggest keeping track of what you should be getting compensated for, a few weeks ago I wasn't paid neither mileage or insurance bonus on a check, called and got it put on the following check. However, I also see on a recent check I was only paid a 22.00 short haul amount for a load from west allis to minneapolis, so need to call in on that one now too. No way in hell I will take those loads for 22 bucks if thats what they are. It's something like 300+ miles one way. I have started to get a little untrusting lately and am watching for things like this and keeping records of everything from when I started. One thing I have learned in 36 years is no one is going to watch out for yourself other than yourself.Last edited: Jun 29, 2013

LB not to be nit picky here but i think your math is messed up. in all actuality if you paid $20 a week for 83 weeks that would be $1660. so you would owe them $840 still. minus the $500 would make you owing them $340. The forgiven amount was for the training. The total cost is $5000. so after one year they forgive $2500. you already paid $500 at the start of training which leaves $2000 to pay back at $20 a week. which would take you 100 weeks to pay back. Since you only worked 83 weeks you still owe for the remaining 17 weeks. The hotel cost depends on if you had a roomate or not and if you stayed the whole 3 weeks plus the three days orientation or not. So Millis and you are both wrong. you should owe them $340 still. I have no clue where you got the motel numbers because with your total you would have been paying around $13 a night which no motel in the country charges that low.

I need to check the training costs again. I thought it was $2500 total. -
Oh and the three days for orientation should not be charged to you. It's irrelevant for me since I didn't stay in the hotel for orientation.
-
Also, I was paying $30 per week not $20. This includes the $10 per week for hotel costs. Since they combined the two, I asume the monies paid will go to either bill. With those number, I still over paid and there is no reason I should have got a bill for over $2400

Its $2500 for school minus 500 deposit so $2000 paid back at $20 per week for 100 weeks. Then its $2500 for training which is forgiven after 1 year from you hire date which is last day of orientation. No clue on the hotel didn't stay there at all.
