Glad to hear your happy with your choice AZ. As far as trip planning goes break it down in steps. 1st you need to do your 25 mile check so find a place for that then your 150 mile 3 hour then your next. This way your only focusing on small chunks of the trip instead of the whole thing. This can allow it to be less overwhelming.
Couple packing ?????

AZNoobie, Do you know why the others have been booted or quit orientation? It seems that 6 start each week and usually 1/3 to 1/2 or more never make it. I know first hand that one left because he could not get the shifting down. He thought the training was too fast and he decided to go to Prime where he is at now. He did not blame Roehl at all. Said Roehl is a great company but just too fast of training for him.

I am now in Indiana waiting for my trainer to come into Gary sometime tomorrow. Today has been a frustrating day due to lack of communication from Roehl but I guess that's the nature of the beast. It'll be nice to get out with the trainer and to start using all of the training I've received so far.
As for orientation, one got booted because his heart rate was going too high due the 70lb weight carry during the agility test on the first day. Another got cut because of the hair follicle test and the last was because he said he messed up on the medical paperwork for his DOT exam but Roehl felt he may have falsified the paperwork.
I'll try to update how phase 2 goes but don't know how often I'll be able to get on here. -
AZNoobie, How far do you carry 70lbs? And the guy that messed up on medical paperwork for DOT exam? Did they make you all get your DOT exam before going there? They just sent me yesterday to get mine. I passed and the DR gave me a 2 year card. Do they do the same tests all over again at Phase I? Thanks Looking forward to your updates on Phase II.

If I remember correctly, The 70lb carry was like 40 ft and back...? Maybe not even that far. It was 9 months ago...
-
The carry was almost to the end of the trailer and back....so about 48ft. I believe the other guy forgot to include a recent surgery on the paperwork when he got his DOT exam. Roehl found out and didn't believe him that it was an honest mistake on his part.
Smokin, this is what you'll do the first day http://vimeo.com/59611178 plus drug tests and paperwork.MadysDad Thanks this. -
THANKS for the responses. I did receive that video from my recruiter as well but wondered what else could there be that people we getting sent home for. I guess having surgery and not telling would be bad unless it was elective and not a required one. The 70 pound carry looks like only for flatbed? Did anyone have to do that for reefer or dry van?
-
Truthfully my guess for people getting sent home its between not being honest about there driveing record, and the hair test. My class lost only one but he was a special case of something else. Alls i gotta say is he was a dumb***.
Cause they do check your driveing record again while your in RDTC. To make sure you didnt get anything new. but some people might just relize after they get there this job is not for them. Its a lot of responsibility to drive a CMV. -
Heading to RDTC either July 29, August 5 or 12. Wanted to know what to wear? 3 weeks of training and classroom. HOT in WI this time of year.
-
I didn't go to RDTC so can't comment on any attire requirements there, but I was able to wear shorts and a t-shirt during orientation if I wanted. When I packed my bag to get ready for orientation and phase 2, I included a warm and lighter weight long sleeve shirts and a jacket because you never know what weather you may get into and I've been told some customers require you to wear pants and a long sleeve shirt. Pack a pair of work boots too. You're not required to have steel toe boots till your solo but it'd be a good idea to have them before you leave for RDTC.
After sitting for several days thanks to the holiday, finally made it out with my trainer on our first load...Indiana down to Alabama due Monday morning. First day of driving went well.
