So the company hired you, said we believe in you, we think you can do the job. You screw up and it's their fault. Shame on them for even thinking you could do the job.

    Sound like excuses to me.

That's about the only statement that is true and not a contradiction.

You're going to have to own up to the fact that you were solely responsible for this. A company sending you out with no training is stupid, I agree. Once you're out on the road though everything that happens is all on you. The best thing you can do now is learn from the mistake.

When you get into nasty situations getting into docks forget about everything else and focus on safely maneuvering. I know exactly what you mean about all the other things working against you. When I started the job I have now it was like starting all over even though I had experience driving already. I was constantly behind with unloading, didn't fully understand our paperwork and just generally didn't know what I was doing in regards to everything other than the driving part. Add on top of that I was going to places that I wouldn't of even thought trying to get a truck into before.

I've had to multiple times remind myself when maneuvering around our properties that I need to slow everything down, stop worrying about all of the other crap and focus on doing everything safely. One of the best skills you can learn is to recognize when you're letting other crap seep in. When you recognize that, you need to stop, clear you mind then do what needs to be done.

All of the others things will come in time and even if it means being late, screwing up paperwork or screwing up anything else, it's better than doing damage.

My favorite line is in the title.

    "My trailer hit."

No, slapnuts, you drove the trailer into the truck.

My trailer doesn't randomly decouple and start destroying cars.

Although I wish it would sometimes.

    Ha.

It is not the companys fault, it is yours. Once you get you license you are ready to work, if you thought you were not ready, you should have never have gotten behind the wheel. Accept the responsabilty of you actions.

We just had a new driver last week who said he could do the job and had plenty of experience.
He failed my road test but they put him in a truck anyway!
Ended up costing the Company 75k in property damage and truck repairs.

The manager who decided to put him in a truck anyway is in deep doo doo!!!!!

The new driver was fired on the spot!

I have heard this same quote from people who have caused damages that reach into the tens of thousands of dollars.. Most drivers are not insurance adjusters and most have no idea what damage costs by the time the WHOLE case is closed out.. YOU consider in minor.. if someone in a truck hit a vehicle or property that then own, something tells me that they'd be talking out of their other face.
