Problem Charging my notebook with a 150 charger

I have both a ASUS notebook and HP laptop. My 150 watt invertor works just fine with both of them. I have a 1500 watt invertor in the truck direct wired, and it will not power my laptop. Was told because of the "SINE"

I charge my ipad everyday with a small (cig lighter invertor) can't remember the size,im away from my truck right now,but I'll post tomorrow . But I was going to put my large inv in but this little one works just fine.

The iphone charger only needs about 5 to 10 watts, so your inverter is way more than enough for that! However, your Toshiba laptop/notebook charger needs virtually the total capacity of of your small 150 watt (not 150v) inverter. I have a Toshiba laptop that won't operate on any inverter below 300 watts. Inverters should be direct wired (not run off a cigarette lighter) unless it's a tiny inverter (150w or less) just to power low watt needs like the iphone charger. It may be that your notebook's charging circuit, or DC adapter, is now aged/older, to the point of needing more power (watts) to run it, or in a rare case, "cleaner" power, as in pure sine wave. However, most laptop DC adapters are very "power flexible" and do not need pure sine wave to function correctly. Their main purpose is to step down the voltage & amps (115v AC @ 15 amps) down to say (19v DC @ 6 amps), (depending on notebook). A 150w inverter is far too small for most notebooks/laptops. What size and model is your new inverter?
PS: A nice utility I have used (which includes a handy battery condition/status readouts of your laptop's battery) is PC Wizard, found at very reputable PC utilities company website CPUID
This program is a very handy and complete system information tool to see every little detail and specs of your computer, whether it is a desktop, or laptop/notebook.
Now that is unusual. Especially since the 150w inverter is getting very close to being barely enough wattage to supply power needs for a laptop, and is certain to also produce a modified sine wave (squared sine wave, not pure sine wave), which is probably the same sine, or cruder quality, than your larger inverter. But cheaply built inverters, no matter what the watt output, can produce some real "dirty" unregulated power output.Last edited: Jun 30, 2013

My inverter is a cyberpower150 w,when i have time i look to buy a biger inverter(300) what i can plug in a cigar-lighter and i hope after works good

No they don't require a "pure sine wave". I have had a laptop in my truck for almost as long as I have been trucking (almost 20 years) and have NEVER had a problem charging the laptop using a MODIFIED SINE WAVE inverter. But I have always used 2400 to 5000 watt inverters. Never even bought anything smaller than 1400 watts. Small inverters heat up too much and have been known to cause fires. -
Do you realize that a PURE SINE WAVE inverter costs several THOUSAND dollars and isn't necessary?
