Since Guns are out for most of us new company drivers what do you recommend? One guy says Bear Spray is the best and better than mace or even a bullet against a charging grizzly! http://counterassault.com

are you trying to protect against a charging grizzly? Most folks have recommended a tire thumper to me. I keep a hammer and a big ### knife, but haven't really had occasion to use it.

My husky's scared away a lot lizards and we've been asked "is that a wolf?" a time or two. . but she's not too protective.

I carry a smith and wesson... model 439 9 mm... I would rather explain why I have a gun in my truck than have them investigating my murder.... I run mostly Texas Oklahoma and Louisana.. and have conceal and carry license have been ask in all 3 states to see gun when they see my conceal and carry cert... never had a problem.. of course I have never had to use it either..

I have been in some horrible area's when I was otr...... Worst was downtown Pittsburgh had a delivery one way in and one way out.. and you had to get there either before the bars got busy in the area or the businesses opened the next morning so you could get out.... Had to spend the night there.. had bums wake me up 10 times.. That is the only night I have ever not felt safe... The only thing I had in the truck with me that night was a aluminum softball bat.. The next morning at like 4 am the owner of the business woke me up ( a paint and body shop had 15 panels for him) and unloaded me while we were talking he said in the last 3 months he has had 4 drivers mugged there all at knife point.... I made it through safely told him have a good day and never went back there....

I advocate the responsible carrying of a firearm. That being said, I know that's not an option for everyone. I spent 10 years living in Alaska and I can tell you that bear spray does work. I think that it would be a suitable option if a firearm is out of the question for you.

They do make some belt holsters for bear spray so you can easily carry it on your person. Remember a defensive weapon does no good if you can't reach it quickly. It only takes 3 seconds for an attacker to cover 21 feet.

If its people you're worried about, my dad who drove for over 20 years advised me to keep justa holster and keep it up in the front window. Some one who is wanting to cause some trouble isn't going to risk it when there are so many other victims that don't give any evidence that they're armed. Plus, if DOT sees it, you just have to explain to them exactly what it's for. Most won't give you any trouble and if they do want a search, you have nothing to hide.
