keep the scales open. the scales are for unsafe, over weight trucks. I just think its bs how some government agency thinks it can change all these hos rules on a whim. bcuz they want to. how in the world do they know when im tired? how do they know when I need to run? if this keeps going like it is they will be telling us we ALL have to be parked for the night by 6 oclock and we wont be able to drive until 8 oclock the next morning, if we are lucky. I know someone is going to say that will never happen, but you never know. how many times have you gotten held up at a customer and didn't have enough time to get to a truckstop, or home for that matter bcuz you didn't have enough time? you have to shut down on the side of the rd bcuz you don't have enough time to get someplace. that always a great place to park. someone hits your truck bcuz you are on the side of the rd its your fault, not the hos rule, not the customer who held you up and wont let you take a break on their property, not your employer, it will be all you. bcuz you didn't have the "time" to get to someplace safe. how does that work again? oh yeah, that's right. have a fun paying that ticket.
More rules and regs? I think its time for a shut down strike.

I bet you if they come up with a law like this it'll be something more like;
NO TRUCKS OVER 6 TONS DRIVING DURING RUSH HOUR (M thru F 7am-9am, 3pm-6pm)
OoOoops! Did I just give FMCSA another free idea?!?!baddbudd_2000 Thanks this. -
If you have to park on the side of the road, then that means you didnt do ANY trip planning. So, that would mean that it IS your fault. 10 years in and you havent figured that out? Thats an example why many dont listen to the "gripes" of the drivers. Using a little logic goes a whole lot farther. Trucking isnt some game, its a "Commercial" Industry. Regulations everywhere. Many factories are regulated to a max of 16 hrs of work. Be safe out there drivers.

so you have never been held up at a customer? just to be told you can not stay there? really? you must be able to predict the future. just sayin. so you are saying that I need to plan other people incompetence to have things in order to get me in and out of there. yep, that works all the time.
-
Since I started in 88', I have NEVER had to park on the side of the road. If you THINK you have to, then the incompetence isnt others. Years ago, trucking companies required their drivers to know how to plan their trip. It really is an easy thing to do if you pay attention and give a dang about what you do. Putting in an effort really goes a long long way. Be safe out there drivers.

Where do you figure 150 miles a week in loss of only running 65 mph bub because you run east coast guess again due to traffic and road construction i lost over 300 miles in a 68mph truck. the bottom line is pay and miles and finding a place to park that is not full by 5 pm and cities kicking us all out of town like outlaws. The way i see it its prejudice and racist towards american truck driver not about skin color its about equality. Why not govern cars back too. Check on four wheelers on vacation who overload there vegicles. motorhomes sit on bus frames should require a class b cdl to operate. whole system needs overhauled overhauled.

I haven't driven either coast in over 15 years . Ran MA to MD twice a week back in the early 90's . Had enough of that .

Just because you can do 68 mph doesn't mean that is your daily average speed. Figure roughly 30 miles in a half hour (your required break) over a 7 day work week that comes out to 210 miles a week lost. Few and far between will you find a company paying by the hub so you figure by the time they cut you out on your actual miles driven you are losing about 150 PAID miles. What I'm arguing here basically is this. If they want to force a half hour break on us fine no big deal but compensate a driver for the work he actually does. You want safer roads? Let us earn a wage equal to the work we put in. Certainly trucking can provide a livable wage depending on the carrier you're with but does that pay really equal up to the time you put in? I'm not paid by the mile anymore but by the ton. For the part of trucking I'm in I am able to make more money per week like this than by the mile. As far as parking goes that is a huge problem. I agree 100% with you on that. Go to a truck stop anywhere on the east coast after 4 pm and see how many choices of parking are left. NONE!!!! T/A has found a way to "create" parking to drivers who are willing to pay. That doesn't solve the parking issue it takes away from what few available spots left to park. Right here would be the perfect way to get the ball rolling and stick together. If we can get drivers to stop paying to park in the "vip parking" hopefully corporate TA will notice it and remove it. Something as simple as this and I bet there won't be enough drivers sticking together to do it.

These new hrs are a joke ibeen waiting on my load since 1:30am and and it will be ready by 5am but s t 6am im required to take a break wtf I been in the sleeper the whole time even got me a nap these idiots writing laws are dumb
Oh well we will be stopping in small towns and pulled over on off ramps and in parking lots and be pissing everyone off and they will compain I dont care tell the dumb gov
I just hope the court throughs these rules out in oct suppose to be 3 more months til they give the ata a decision -
drivers dont see it all the same
even with these new rules, some drivers are quick to say "its no big deal" but it is a big deal, when these folks can legislate from afar what we should and should not do to complete our jobs, its a slippery slope that doesnt end
and they arent doing it for safety, they are doing it for political points
and we are the ones who have to adjust and readjust and re-readjust our work procedures to accomodate their whims
today its stop after 8 hrs, tomorrow its go to the bathroom every two hours, stay in the sleeper a minimum of 8hrs, with sleep monitoring equipment to make sure you sleep and not watching videos
i have even heard drivers say that cameras INSIDE the truck are no big deal
drivers are never going to stand up and say "enough is enough" with this nonsenseairforcetoo, 48Packard, landstar8891 and 1 other person Thank this.
