Are you totally sure about all this? If so, this is a seriously bad situation, NOT to mention totally unfair to American citizens born and raised in the United States of America, who for one reason or another, cannot get behind the wheel of a semi, often due to their work histories, medical histories, or background checks.
Perhaps the Department of Transportation, ICE, or other facets of the federal government should do TOTALLY COMPLETE AUDITS of the trucking companies hiring these immigrants without the proper background checks that are required.
God bless every American and their families! God bless the U.S.A.!

Any luck yet in the job search?
Last DOT physical I got, a few guys names didn't match their social security number. Don't know which company they were from. The guys just laughed about it & told the lady in the office, "do what you have to do." They got their physical, passed, and left the building. Must not have needed any endorsements or that probably wouldn't have worked. It's the responsibility of the trucking company to E-Verify, not the doctor.
As for immigrants, it's irrelevant. Both sets of my grandparents were immigrants & so is my wife. Anthropologists have proven the, so called, Native Americans also immigrated from Asia. Their route was Asia through Russia, across the land bridge to Alaska and then points south. Thats why many Indians in Alaska,Canada, the Americas have Asian features. So everyone in the Americas are immigrants if you go back far enough in history. I have 2 daughters from a previous marriage that are 1/2 Indian, their Mother is full blooded Indian and they all, including the ex-inlaws, acknowledge this fact of their roots and don't have a problem with it; they aren't PC either because they recognize being PC is just baggage weak people choose to carry.HotH2o and DoneYourWay Thank this. -
Me too, but the trucking companies DONT! They will turn down a US citizen because he has a work gap, then hire somebody who just got here from Pakistan who got his cdl license and not check into HIS work history in Pakistan for the last 10 years! It's total BS! Why do they do it? Yes you got it - to drive down wages even farther! They won't be happy till we are all working for .25 cents a mile, or less.mje Thanks this.

=) I'm happy to see we're all getting along here.. now back to the subject at hand! lol. let's just take it down a bit. PS I am half mexican born in Monterey Park California, at least that's what my Birth Certificate says... =) I could always claim the 1/4 Yaqui indian my mom gave me... it's all semantics at this point. this thread is about finding a decent job for someone who had not such a decent past 3-4 years of work.
mje Thanks this. -
WOW, just spoke with an Online Rep from Melton. Asking them why they turned me down yet sent me another email saying to join with them. The nice lady from Melton said and I quote "If you already spoke with a recruiter and they turned you down, there is no further reason to continue this conversation" then DQ'd the connection -_- I love people.... I really do.

This all sounds similar to what is happening in construction, meatpacking & poultry plants, food processing plants, various loading docks & waterfront docks, needle & thread sewing plants, lumberyards & wood processing plants, along with a number of other industries slowly but steadily using immigrant labor to keep labor costs down.
It is GENUINELY & TRULY a sad shame that the workforce is so cut throat that Americans and immigrants alike are quite stressed out in both obtaining and keeping their jobs.
It is also hypocritical that double standards are being practiced on U.S. citizens vs. immigrants coming into the United States of America. These trucking companies need to be TOTALLY & COMPLETELY AUDITED, by the federal government, from start to finish.

I'd go down the hill towards L.A. There's a million trucking companies there and you might just get lucky. You've got to remember that filling a application on-line is for perfect drivers that look good on paper. It's very easy for the larger companies to hire this way so everyone makes it out to be the only way. Getting in the door of a smaller good company just might work out to be your best bet. You can do so much during that first impression I wouldn't trade it for anything. Even if you run into a lot of companies that require experience sometimes they do business with other companies that hire new drivers. I know when we looked at drivers the company was impressed with a driver that showed ambition with drive. If you like a company let them know and ask what you can do to help you along to get hired by them. Once you fill out an application keep checking with them ever so often. And be sure to go in and make any changes you might have. Right now you should make it your job in job hunting. Don't make the mistake on just using the computer to find a job. You'll never know what's truly out there. You're fortunate to be in an area where there are a lot of companies so take advantage of that and go looking for work. Good luck and you should also know the more you put into this industry the more you get out of it.

Congratulations WCash.
And only a comment about this comment:
If you knew what immigrants go through with Immigration to get into the US, DOT shouldn't have any problems with them either. They have to supply Immigration with their criminal history, financial details, education history, references, work histories and spend a bunch of time and money to get that visa to come here (legally). Add in several face-to-face interviews with some young bureaucrat who gives even less of a #### than a post office clerk.
Heck, to get a US green card using a lawyer to help now costs about $30,000 and 5 years or more to get it. If something doesn't check out during that process, they have to go home. And people wonder why some furreners choose to come in illegally instead. They're just trying to do better for their families, no different than you or me.DoneYourWay Thanks this. -
Didn't take me long to Get a Green Card.
Of course...stepdad was in the Army.
