As some of the regulars here know we have been researching either buying or building some new equipment, yes we are in a bit of a niche but this question goes out to any of you that are running a daycab for any of the big companies.

If we decide to build our own equipment again, we will be starting with a clean sheet of paper and no stone left unturned, which may include a daycab so we can get more usable deck space. Since I have always had sleeper trucks I am totally naive on this subject.

Is there some national discount card or chain that has some double secret, ring decoder rate for you guys that are always in a motel? I mean besides the usual CDL rate, I just figured that some of the companies that are running daycabs must have some kind of reduced cost plan.

    Thanks Stan

I am not sure but some places might offer a corporate discount.

We use the Corporate Lodging Card(CLC) everywhere we stay. The rate is much cheaper. To be honest, I have no idea what it entails as the business owner to get into it.

Every once in awhile you'll run into hotels that won't give you a room at the CLC rate on a busy night because they don't want to give you a discount knowing they'll probably sell those rooms at full price. I've only had it happen once at a casino I stay at sometimes.

They have an app for phones that finds the nearest CLC hotels near you or you can search a specific town ahead of time as well which is nice. Has the phone number and address so you can call ahead and find out if there's truck parking and such. I know we have a book of CLC hotels too at work but I'm not sure if that's something CLC puts out or if it's just information our guys have put together.

I have a buddy who uses the CLC card also. They charge him 5 bucks on top of the discounted rate every time he uses it. He seems to get good rates. I've never heard of him not being able to find a hotel room with truck parking.

The CLC cards used to be good. I dropped mine as they would say one rate at the desk for clc and then clc charged another, plus the handling fee.
Now things may have changed since I had mine. Was 3 years ago I dropped it.
Some hotels would let you pay cash at the clc rate if you had the card.
That way they got their money faster.
Another thing I had happen several times was, it took some hotels several months before they sent in the bill and then you see charges on your credit card 3 months later. Talk about messing up your books.

May want to try a AAA card as well - membership is pretty inexpensive and it may be a good employee benefit to give your guys plus you and they could use it for personal use. Typically only gets you $10 or so off the listed rate so I have no idea how that compares to the above mentioned CLC card. Hope this helps!

    Beware of CLC!!!!
I got a copy of a receipt from a hotel once for $49.00 that was what CLC was Charged when I got my bill they charged me $69.00 plus the $5.00 transaction fee.
I was going to report them to the state Attorney General but didn't get time.

Bottom line as mentioned hotels hate CLC and if you ask nicely they will give you the CLC rate if you pay cash. That way everyone is happy.....except CLC :)

Be careful with CLC. They like to add mystery charges.

We use CLC. Never had any issues. Yet.

Only issue I've run into is hotel saying they have truck parking. If it don't say auto hauler parking I dont go.
