Use the current split sleeper against them. 4 on 2 off 7 on 8 sleeper rinse and repeat. Never worry about the 30 minutes off because its covered. Start your resets at 7pm if possible, to be down for the least amount of time. That, or work off the recap. Besides, if you had 2 days off that didn't cover the 0100-0500 rule, you already get back 2 days of hrs at midnight from the recap, and get more every night til the next week. It shouldn't be too much of an issue.

Well, I don't earn vacation either since i own the truck. I just take it. Anyone creative enough to argue for family time or some such thing can take the week off if they choose. After all, it is a choice. I am not going to down anyone if they decide to not shut down. But some panty waist stuff about having not "earned" vacation time is a cop out. Anyone worth their salt can create a situation where they need to take time off and be home to take care of something.

I have touted all along, with much resistance from others, that this new HOS thing can be easily absorbed into a routine. Americans, at least in the past, have been a creative bunch and will find a way to make it work. I had it all figured out how I would do things back within 2 weeks of the posting of the new regulations at the FMCSA website. Those that are just now coming to the party and trying to figure out what they are going to do have wasted a lot of valuable time that could have been put towards load planning and stuff to make things work. Oh well. Nothing new.
