Have same question for my '01 Volvo engine. Why not FleetAir if You don't mind?
-
I tried it last year and I lost mpg with it. As soon as I installed it the turbo seemed to stay on boost longer. The whistle was almost constantly there. I ran it for 3000 miles and was just not happy. Pulled into a Volvo dealership and purchased a stock one and my mpg came back straight away. I got a refund on the FleetAir as it was within 30 days from purchase.
Having had more time to consider the options, figure you get 4 - 5 standard filters for the cost of the one FleetAir. That's 2 years or so of use if you change out every 6 months. Having seen the construction, or rather the material used in the filter element, of the FleetAir I also had concerns about it's durability and wonder what condition it would be in after that length of time. So I figured buying a good off the shelve filter every 6 months was a better option, having new filter material more often is surely better than to keep cleaning the same material over and over.
A fellow O/O said he had good luck with the Donaldson one, part# P606720, so I have decided to order one and give it a go. I just ordered from a truck parts supplier off ebay, $80 incl two cabin filters and shipping. Pretty good deal. That's a 3.71 ratio to the cost of the FleetAir and that doesn't take into account the cabin filters, which are about $15 each, so that's $30 off. Bring the ratio to 5.98 Donaldson filters to one FleetAir.
I have an 07 780 with the D12 and am currently getting 7.48 mpg average with the stock Volvo filter. -
How about k&n u just wash it good for about 350,000 mi
-
K&N is $229 I think. The service life is based on how long it takes before air flow is restricted. This can not be measured in miles but only on engine performance, power and mpg, to determine how long you can go before it needs cleaning.
Still at 4.58 Donaldon filters to one K&N. -
I got myne with discount directly from K&N and happy with it so far 180.00 usd
-
Your the first person I've come across running the K&N. Has it effected the engine performance, power and mpg?. Do you do oil samples?.
-
Very little increase in fuel consumtion , no i dont do oil analisys. I ordered the filter a few years back when they were making it for cars only , and assoon as they made it truck they called me , i just wantit it because of beter intake and the fact that i dont have to change it every 50 k

Im sorry decrease.
