I haven't and it will be mid sept before I do.

Only other option would be a trailer with no front deck then, or the smaller sleeper.. I know this is a EX, but I would be real tight for room if it was any less than the 260 wheelbase that it is.
Not sure what else you could do to stay bc legal mate. Can buy trip permits for BC for wheelbase though can't
I like a front deck on am rgn myself,.but it may not work for your truck at that wheelbase. I know you aren't worried about it now, but consider the resale of the rig too, if it can only pull one type of rgn etc.
Does BC still measure the same for wheelbase if its a 4axle truck? be nice if they went to the center of the front drive able instead of between the drive axles huh? How do they measure the tri drive kws? They can't lift am axle, so maybe they measure to the center drive axle in that case?
It's a tough call, trying to be as versatile as possible, and still having a truck that works for you in every day situations.

I am likely going to a narrow neck but I agree that I can't spec a truck that only works for one trailer.
As far as the wheelbase goes with the lift axle up as it has to be by my reading of the regs it doesn't count for moving the center of the axle group forward to the forward drive axle as itnappears would be the case with tri-drive.
there is a section in the regs about pulling a "lowboy" and allowable size but it was not real clear to me.
I am going to revisit the length again tomorrow and may go with larger axle spacing now that I can't get to 244". I am thinking I might look at 54" or 60".
on the air to oil transmission cooler - I have to go from the single core aluminum 1500 sq in radiator to 1530 sq in copper brass 2 core - about a $3000 up tick. Is it worth it? The detroit engineers say given my 140000 gvw limit that even running grades in the southwest the truck will cool with no short or long term issue -
houston tx waiting to unload this load from hell took 12 hours to load a pretty straight forward load of square tubing outta chicago now been here for 2 hours waiting to unload mind u it is 430 am now recieving hours are from midnight to 5 if they say i gotta wait till tommorow morning to unload i may just borrow a forklift somewhere and dump this crap on the street 1.80 a mile. me and my dispatcher have already had words
edit: dont mind me just venting a little i only woke up this morning 900 miles away this morning blah
ps congrats to ron on the new truck i hope u get everything worked out im not gonna toot the peterbilt horn but if u went with a different brand truck maybe a kw or pet.....paccar product would u be able to stay with in the overal length that u need to be in or are u dead set and commited to the western star. not trying to start something as ive never ordered a brand new rig before and im not sure on the commitment involved with specing out a new ride -
The thought of being able to clean the glass on the passenger side door.............while sitting in the drivers seat, doesn't appeal to some!

I would never consider buying one myself, but that's just
Not to mention, the wheelbase is what it is, regardless of ..
Keep us posted Ron
Martinpassingthru69, fisher guy and SHC Thank this. -
Hey Ron, here is a nice glider with enough frame space for you to add the 3rd axle to...... just can't go into Canada or California.

To be honest, you might be better off buying a long framed 3 axle truck and adding the 4th axle to it. I know several guys here at LS that have done this and saved a few thousand over a factory 4 axle. Not sure if it's worth the hassle tho??? -
Not to mention he is going with a SBA truck. On a KW or Pete he would loose frame space with a set forward axle truck unless he got a T660 or the 587 (which I like in a midroof)
I personally have been contemplating a 389 glider. I actually LIKE the narrow cab, and a flat-top is a must for me unless the wife decides to come, then it would be a 70" Unibilt. But she likes the WS gliders I have shown her and the one had a oversize bed in it, which would be nice.
In the end, it will all come down to price and specs for the job i do. Since Ron is going to 7 axle freight, I see the WS as the best choice for OTR hauling. If he was going to stay regional I would have suggested a Mack for sure. -
Macks are junk out here there is absolutely no dealer network and the shops you do find won't work on them not to mention most parts are proprietary. As far as the truck goes the only KW to look at for a HH truck is th T800 which is being phased out this year for the T880. The wheelbase issue is what it is the last t8 4 axle I had was a 280 wheelbase and the lift axle was right behind the sleeper but it could pull a long neck.SHC Thanks this.

Everything in ND has NO NETWORK lol..... There are 4 Mack dealers within 50 miles of my home and plenty here in the Midwest. But I have no experience with any of them. I just have always liked the Mack truck, but to be honest, I'd rather have a WS heavy haul truck. And that's where we run into problems. Out where you are, and the Northwest is WS territory and lots of dealerships and repair places. Not so many down here... but I still like my Star
