    what I have found.....

A good broker is more rare than a good wife.

You will go through more brokers than you will ever care for. just when you have a really good one, they will find someone cheaper and you are tossed to the side like last nights dishwater.

In playing the spot market, semper gumby. Always Flexible. When you think you have it figured out, you don't. And when you think you are screwing up big, things just fall into place.

    Welcome to the big leagues.....

    ETA:

I have pretty much consistently run off Internet Truckstop this last year. Yes, It's been a year since I bought my truck now. (July 25th I went to Ridgefield WA). I have an email list that I started that is called "Broker". I put them in the BCC block and will mail that out on occasion when I get stuck. Rarely do I go 5-10 minutes before my email and phone light up.

It has taken about 7 months to create that list though. And another 3 months to add to it once I went to reefer.

One benefit I am finding is that the brokers I have been working with are more easily to approve me the day I get my own authority. Since I have already proven myself to them. Some of them several times over. Some of them by being a bail-out truck for them at the last minute. Bouncing several hundred miles to cover a load when they really need it.

You went into Denver too cheap if you can't bounce several hundred miles out. Or the cheap outbound is going to kill you. Takes time to learn everyone has been there. Would echo everything red posted.. ..just hang in there. No-one just gets great rates from the get go. Let go of the animosity towards brokers. It'll only hamper your game and cost you focus. I'd almost bet I get much better rates from brokers than most solo or small fleets doing exclusive direct. Try hammering a direct customer as you would a broker and see how long that lasts. They cant move the freight without a truck regardless how few loads to trucks there may be. Never operate in any other manner and make sure they know who sets the rate. Walking away saying no, easiest thing in the world...

It won't last long, they will say adios...

Brokers are pretty used to tough negotiation, customers are not...lol...

The funny thing about brokers is that they'll keep calling after you jack them around, whereas customers won't.....

But then, a good customer will pay a decent rate without all of the shenanigans.

    buddyvuk Thanks this.

Thanks all for your help . Its just learning game right now. Denver def bad spot but I know better now.
Figuring out the right rate is not easy either. There are so many factors.
I got 2.70 going in ... I could have grabbed 2.50 out of there but by the time I figured that load was gone. I was on the board for another 4 hrs looking and couldnt find anything.
Ended up going with CH Robinson water to Utah for 1.75 (reefer off ) and Utah to Portland 2.0 .. so I can get back home take care of few things...

I agree ...I don't want to burn any bridges. Plus we all gotta make living ... I just don't want anyone ty to play mE for a fool. And it seemes like tql is over the too cheap. The more high paying brokers require 6 months to a year old authority... mine is not even 30 days.
Like you said..its not gonna happen overnight
