Well I had an interesting experience today in Texas that I thought Id share with my fellow marauders. I got pulled over north of Dallas by a THP AND a unmarked plain clothes cop. I thought wtf? Dd somebody say I hit them or something? Nope. I was told my load had shifted. (Load of styrofoam insulation) Uh,what? (It was all standing straight and hadnt walked off the back any) Yeah your load shifted, look see how that bundle isnt even with the one in front of it anymore? Uh yeah I see that sir but it was that way when I left,it didnt shift. Well thats gonna cause a load inbalance. Uh its styrofoam and the whole load weighs like 6000lbs sir. Well uh your uh straps are loose also (to illustrate he pulls on strap a little). Uh once again its styrofoam officer moron I cant tighten it g chord tight. Oh and I see you dont have two straps on the front of the load. Uh yes sir I do,both within the first 6ft of the load. Well uh you need two right next to each other. Um ok first Ive heard that but ok,anything else Officer Fife? No thats it.
All the time the plain clothes officer is just smiling away and Im convinced this is all going on some THP gag reel somewheres. This stop made zero sense except to waste my time. Smh
So beware apparently Texas wants those first two securements side by side within the first 8ft of the load.

I think the DPS in Texas get bored and like to screw with truck drivers. And I'm sure of this because I have dealt with them before... If you had actually done something illegal, they would've written you a citation for it. They're not famous for giving warnings.
I once got pulled over in my car by one who was very obviously bored. Middle of the night, told me he pulled me over because the left taillight on my car was slightly higher than the right one, and that's against regulations. And he had me going too... Till he laughed, thanked me for being a good sport, and went back to his car and drove off. Never even asked if I had a license LOL.
They were definitely screwing with you out of boredom. They love doing that. -
I almost quit yesterday. I can care less about getting stuck over a holiday but a 200 mile run that delivers on Friday is total BS and I'm not done complaining about it.
My FM said to me, "Yeah, but you'll get paid the minimum 350 miles..." -
Alright fellows...Im suppose to headed to NLR in a week or two. But I was wondering whats going on with the miles. I see some of you folks runnin short miles...Is this a downward trend...Got Maverick at the top of my list. Sure would like to keep them there.
While Im at it maybe some unbiased opinions from you guys. Little feedback on Stevens, USA, CT flatbed division...I know this is Maverick thread but Im hoping I can get some honest opinions, cuz you guys got me worried with the sudden lack of miles.
Thanks....Happy Fourth. Be safe. -

Unbiased opinion??? You do realize you're in a maverick thread right? -
Dont get me wrong, I'm very happy with my miles and I have been getting great miles... this is just one load but it was a stupid load at a stupid time.Asiansmurf Thanks this. -
yeah sarge i do...I been following...thats why i was wonderin bout the miles...if your pullin those miles thats great...but are you the only one? I saw blinddog and a cpl others drop off in miles...just hopin it was a slow trend and they will pick back up...I also asked for the opinions cuz what Ive seen in here makes me feel like I could get a honest opinion from what seems to be a really good group of guys and maybe in a couple weeks be part of the Maverick team. Waitin on Courtney to hook me up with a date hopefully the 14th if not then the 21st...Ive seen all the redderick bout the others from disgruntled or never weres. I believe you guys can do it unbiasedly(if thats a word). Just some thoughts that all.

Holidays always slow down a bit, it's nothing to worry about. Everyone is doing some sitting this week.
Even for me, I'll be in NLR this evening and deliver tomorrow morning. Then I get to sit in Russellville all the way until Sunday night before I pick up again. And it won't be a long trip, and it's getting me home. So my check for my hometime week is going to have less than 500 miles on it.
It happens sometimes. But don't be too concerned... In trucking, it's perfectly normal to want to quit every week. Those that are happy never actually do
Asiansmurf and sarge26044 Thank this. -
My numbers are pretty much like what Sarge posted. A lot of times we post just to ##### about the short runs and don't always give praise to the good weeks. I started to focus more on the BIG picture. I look at my miles on a monthly or quarterly basis. At the end of the day, it's what you bring home not how many miles you ran. We are half way through the year and I've already grossed more than $26,000. So if all continues the same I will be over $50,000.
As far as other companies, I can't help you too much. I respect TMC, Melton and Prime. Occasionally meet a few happy guys from Boyd, BTC, Gypsum Express, Tandem and the like... Just remember miles doesn't always equal money...some of my best weeks have been 5 or 6 short runs that were productive. Would much rather have that over 1 run that takes all week to complete and I end up with 1500 miles.Asiansmurf and sarge26044 Thank this.
