And how do you know?
-
I am currently attending the Swift Academy in Richmond. I read the contracts before I signed, and the contracts do not require driving for Swift.
Also, I was told by three different instructors that I was not obligated to drive for Swift. Of course, they want me to, but it's not required. -
Are you staying or moving on to a place that takes recent graduates?
I was thinking about going to TMC after going thru the Swift academy.
TMC pays 24% of the load or. 36¢ a mile (your choice) for recent graduates. I called TMC and they told me NO PROBLEM -
I have not yet made that decision.

Solo or Team?
-
I want to run solo.
-
Me too. I don't wanna be cooped up with some dirty dirt bag and I know I couldn't sleep with another person at the wheel anyways.

I will tell you one thing I have learned in the 30 months that I have been driving for Swift as far as other companies are concerned. I have friends who went to Werner after school we're promised plenty of miles, hometime, etc. They will tell you alot of crap that isn't altogether the truth to get your butt in their orientation. I went to Swift Academy in Dec of 2010 and I'm still driving for them, they have the majority of the freight contracts in the US. Sure they start you at $0.25 but by the end of year 1 your making $0.31 miles typically 2500-3000 depending on keeping yourself available for dispatch and when you take home time usually means a short week.
