Give me 10 open doors and tell me to go to door 5, it will usually end up angled starting at 4 ending in 6...

I forgotten exactly where but it was in South Carolina I went to make a delivery and the receiver tells you it hard to back in wait till another truck pulls out before attempt to back in though your door is open. So I follow his advice and yes it was hard but got it in with not much of a problem.

Standing out talking to other drivers another O/O arrives to make a delivery. He also listens to them an waits and when he starts to back in he has 2 doors to work with. Which is fine he has room to back in. But he loses his patients and starts to abuse his own truck trying to get it in. I went up to him and offer to help him, also to try to calm him down a little for you can tell his Blood pressure was shooting up there from the frustration. His poor truck Transmission was smoking by the time he gets it in. But I did offer to put it in the door for him. All he had to do at that time was walk the trailer over 4 feet and he was in but doing that there was harder than you would think.

I've done that several times, it's a good way to start the day, lol.

I'm still running that account but rarely deliver in Portland.

Most challenging backing I ever did was backing a 29-foot tanker pup with a permanently mounted con-gear onto a lowboy. The con-gear had about a 6-foot long tongue, so, it got out of #### real fast.

The tanker pup was older and had 8-foot axles, so, it was backing a 96-inch wide trailer onto a 102-inch wide trailer. Not a lot of margin for error.

It took awhile, but, eventually I had the pup backed up onto the lowboy. We then had to swing the con-gear around backwards. 29-feet 3-inches in the well, with a 29-foot trailer if the con-gear was swung backwards.

And, what I realized about backing up something with two pivot points (say, like a lowboy with a jeep) is you simply have to think of your truck and the jeep (or con-gear) as all one piece. Once you get the trailer itself turning the direction you want it to go, you then get yourself straightened out with the con-gear or jeep. Once you remember this, it's a lot more manageable.
