I don't think he has an issue with actual hometime, just those "getting by the house" nights. I've been pretty fortunate with those or my husband will come up to Richmond for a night if I don't have to go right back out and he's off.

So sorry to hear John. We had that same news a few years ago with our first black lab "Shadow". It wasn't easy to hear the news even though we knew it was the best thing to do for him.

We stayed with our "Shadow" the entire time as well. We wanted him to know that we loved him and that we were doing what was best for him.

I'm sitting at the rest area just east of Orlando. My first drop is 4am 3 miles from here. Did I say it's still raining? Unreal. I'll have to write up these windshield wipers when I get back next week. The only time they've been off since I left the house Monday was when I shut the truck off to fuel.

I'm home. Woke up at 3:30am and drove the 3 miles to my first drop. Got that off and was on my way to the second one at 4:45. I got to my last drop and had to fight like hell to get backed in to this not made for trucks little Boars Head distributor. I finally had to back out of this storage place, turn around in the street then back in on my blind side. Trust me, even I have days that I say F'it and want to take out a few cars, a corner of a building, and maybe some dummy standing in just the wrong place where I had to get out twice to tell him to at least move so I can see him in my mirror. But, I regrouped and did what is expected of me, to deliver my load safely and on time. But believe me, I came close at 6am this morning to throwing it right out the window.

I got home at noon and went with my wife to put our cat down. We both agree along with the vet that it was time. She gave us 20 years of companionship, and was a huge part of our home.
    God Bless you Midnight.

Onto a truck question. These Volvo's that we drive here at Abilene has that dining room setup that you can use as a bed or dining table. For me it's strictly a bed, with those God forsaken disgustingly uncomfortable cushions that double as a mattress. I'm in the market for a new mattress, something on the lines of a memory foam. Do any of you have something that you use that you can recommend? My back can't take much more of sleeping on this bed of rocks.

I got a 3" thick full size memory foam from walmart and cut off the excess (about 4" of the width). You might want a 4" thick one or two of them stacked. I haven't tried it out yet. I had a twin size one, and I had two of the upper bunk mattresses under that, but got this one so I wouldn't have all that bulk. Hopefully it will sleep okay. I don't remember the brand, but it came in a green/gray box and was $109. I do know the twin slept good.

Thank you. Now if I can stand up straight and have my wife drive me to Walmart I'll get one.

I agree with RC I have two pieces of memory foam. I bought one at wal martand found a gently used one that was left in a loaner truck I used, makes a big difference.

Just remember John you get what you pay for.

There are 2 mattresses that are specifically designed for truckers available. The "Sleepdog" mattress is a memory foam mattress and the other has pocketed coils (think Beauty Rest) being sold under the name "BigRigMattress."

Both have many satisfied customers so I doubt you could go wrong with either 1.
