I just love how it is .04 for me with my CDL, becasue I am suppose to be a professional....

Shouldn't they be more responsible too????

.08 is a BS way to generate more fine revenue, it is a fact that most fatal car accidents happen when the driver is over 2X the legal limit. Most happen in the .20 range...

MADD is a radical organization filled with obnoxious wash-women, who have made it there life goal to ruin others fun.

It's very obvious some of you have never lost anyone extremely close to you (who was completely innocent) because of a drunk driver. I think then you may change your mind.

If your son or daughter or wife was driving to the corner store one mile away or so and not drinking at all and a drunk slammed into them and killed them, and he was only just barely over the legal limit (it happens!!), I think you'd think very differently.

 

I dunno about anywhere else but in the state of NC--if you get convicted of DUI -- its automatice loss of license for 1 yr. If you refuse to do the breathalizer at the time of being stopped--automatic loss of license for 1 yr. If there is a conviction and you try to get driving priveleges--you have to get that interlock device on your car which you must blow into when starting and every 30 mins after , at your cost of course which comes to about $2g per year. You also have a restriction on your license that even after you get them back you cant be caught with an alcohol level of .04 for a year after that. You also get so much community service, gotta go for a number of AA meetings, etc. Plus a big ole fine for the State of NC. All in all, a DUI in NC will cost you about $15g over a 3 yr period. Just smarter to use a cab or get a friend to pick you up.

 

I have lost friends to less....PURE STUPIDITY!!!! I know 3 people who have died, and 1 who is basically a quadriplegics from ####### drivers not paying attention at intersections...all of these were due to people in cars not paying attention and colliding with motorcycles.

Drunks aren't running rampant out there, at least the type of drunk that gets involved in fatal wrecks, I am all for laws that prevent death, BUT making laws in a knee jerk fashion is stupid also.

The .08 law is like banning ALL GUNS, because some people get killed by guns.

Life sucks, the system is not perfect, when a life is lost there is no reason to dwell on it for the rest of your life, punish those involved.

I find it worse when someone is not drunk and kills someone due to bad driving....that is more of a crime.

I have no tolerence for drunk drivers. Not because I don't drink anymore, but because of what I have seen in the past. I used to drive a wrecker for police dispatch. I have lost count of how many times I have seen people killed both young and old because some fool was drinking and driving. I will never forget my 1st fatalaty. Was a teenage boy that hit a pick up truck head on. I was the 1st wrecker on the scene. They had to cut him out of the car. We had to use the wrecker winch to lift the steering wheel out of him. It was a cavalier and I still have the pics of it. I could not even tell what kind of car it was. When we drug him out of the car there was a bunch of us holding him till we got him laid down. Our hands was inches apart and everywhere our hands did not touch his leg bones was sagging.

His legs must have been broken in about 100 places. On the back of the car he had a bumper sticker "searching for the ultiment buzz" I reckon he found it. This one only took his own life. A teenage boy. The other driver survived. Most of the drunks that I recovered lived. It was the ones not drinking that lost their lives. When you see up close and personal what the cost is you lose respect for someone that is just having a good time.

 

I have lost a couple dear friends to Drunk drivers. I have driven once while I was "buzzed" I will never do it again. No I was NOT falling down drunk I had 1 and half glasses of wine with dinner. But I was so scared I would hurt someone.
I have no tolerance for drunk or the catch phrase now "buzzed" driving.
I will say I have no use for MADD they are a group that want to control peoples behaviors and to legislate moralitys. They have decided what is best for adults and they will do at it takes to enforce thier will. I am sorry BUT this is still a free country ..yes you have the "right" to break the law just be ready to pay the price. If you choose to drink that last drink then drive and kill another person you will have to pay and it will be far more than anyone can make you pay. But what MADD has encouraged is a "suspected drunk driver" to be subjected to 2 charges against them for one crime along with being punished on the spot. So in essence they are being punished 2 and possibly 3 times by 2 different agencys. Courts and Dept of Motor Vehicles.
How many times can the state prosecute a person for a single crime?
Our Constitution says only once. The Fifth Amendment specifically provides that no person shall “be subject for the same offense to be twice put in jeopardy of life and limb”.

I believe the only way to change peoples behavior is through one on one. With kindness cuz the in your face will not work all that does is turn someone away from what your tryng to teach them.

Before someone here misconstues my post as advocating driving drunk, do know that is not my point.

My point is that due to BAD decisions made by people who have killed others whilst running in the .3 range, the Mad Mommies now wish to criminalize the guy who stops for 2 0r 3 beers after work and drives home.

Mack E-6 nailed it too with the part about 18 year old adults not being able to drink a beer. Much like "gun kontrol" this is "alcohol kontrol" and the operative word here is.....control. Nothing more.

 

yep, exactly, the new restrictions and laws do nothing to address the problem, all they do is criminalize normal behavior.

I am much safer after 2 beers than all the jerks texting and talking on cell phones....

I can't find the proper words to say right now. Such a string of utter senselessness.

 

One thing that I do not understand for those of you that hold a CDL. Why drink even 1 beer and drive? Even if you are off duty. Is it worth losing your career over it?
