Bulldog Power, keep doing things the way you were doing... the trans and clutch will last nearly forever. Floating gears properly will make you drive easier and induce LESS loads on the trans than clutching will. I had a guy train me years ago that would smack me every time I didn't double clutch. He just had his second left knee replacement, and was forced to retire 3 years earlier than he had planned; due 100% to that knee. Get this... the maintenance history on his assigned trucks over the years showed MORE transmission and clutch problems than his coworkers in identical equipment doing the same job.
Even IF his theory was right, I can replace a LOT of transmissions for the price of a knee and 6 months off work each time.

Yea I kinda agree with u. When I float a gear It's not like I'm yanking on the stick like its a baseball bat and I'm trying to hit a home run. Every once in awhile I'll scrape a gear going in but haven't ever really ground one bad. I'm extremely easy on it.
And I kind of have the mindset that every time u push a clutch in it takes a little life off of it cuz u can never do it without slipping it. Even if its just a little. -

The only place I ever really double clutch is on my dedicated run, there's a 12% uphill grade, and with my 3.08 gears at 475hp, I have to hit the low side for 5H. It's nearly impossible to make that shift smoothly with a shifting tank full of asphalt. But I just uprated to 550, looking forward to seeing if I can stay in 6H again like I used to with a Pittsburgh ECM.Vampire Thanks this. -

Eaton will ALWAYS tell you to double clutch.
They HAVE to. You guys should realize that - it's the manufacturer after all!
That does NOT mean that a professional can't drive the truck and induce LESS wear as long as he shifts
it correctly...
I float up/down and typically only use 3 fingers on the stick...gently moving between the gears.
No scratch and no grind. -
I said it before, it only takes once! I've seen it first hand. You can inflict a lot of damage on a drive line by shock loading. We all try to be professional drivers, but nobody's perfect, including me. That's why I chose to use my clutch.
I was taught by my father who was taught by some of the best in the industry. This was the method that considered correct.
I know this was going to cause a lot of controversy. It's a topic almost as bad as religion. Everybody thinks there way is better. Lol! Kinda like what's the best oil to run in my engine.

I didn't try to start a big controversy. I honestly thought something was wrong with it. I've driven quite a few different types of transmissions and this is the first one that I've actually had to use the clutch for it to split. Learn something new everyday. One problem down 99 to go and probably a lot more by the time I fix them. Seems like a never ending cycle.
