Sounds like it was another trucker with a key from the same type of truck or some one with a slim jim. Someone may have come by and they got scared. Use cab curtains and keep your wallet in the bunk with you. Hang a bell(like a christmas tree bell) on your doors. Neat trick..every 6 months, dump out your wallet and photocopy everything. This gives you a record of what was in it in case you forget about a credit card.

I never did and never would sleep in Gary. That place is crawling with "youths." Not blaming you driver but next time stop in Michigan City IN @ the 34mm. There is a truck stop with a good sized lot there and safe.

Dispatcher I had told me about a lady he met back when he drove in the 70's. She had a mountain lion in her truck. Nother guy had a rattlesnake he kept in a bucket and let loose when he left the truck for a while. It'd curl up under the drivers seat and wait for someone to open the door.

I find that an application for employment displayed on the dash, tends to fend off most of the low-lives......

The thought of actually having a job that requires one to get up in the morning, terrorizes many a low-life....:biggrin_2559:

I think it's crazy to tie straps from door to door. If you have to get out of an all the sudden burning truck in a hurry you're going to have issues.

Wow the same thing happened to me about 4 days ago in Bakersfield, CA. I woke up and my dome light was on. I could swear I locked my doors. I was like why is my dome light on thinking about going to cut it off. Then I see somebody's head by my driver's seat and yell out HEYYYYYY!!! Then a woman's voice said opps I'm sorry. Didn't really think nothing of it. Then I went to look for my wallet and couldn't find it. Was about to go looking for who ever it was and when I opened my door. My wallet was on the step of the trucks with everything in it, but a dollar that I had and normally I just use my debit cards so don't carry much cash. Also noticed my hammer is near the door when you open it was on the other side of my seat. Guessing if I would of woke up sooner she would of hit me with my own hammer. Scared the crap out of me. Was scared to go to sleep and wanted to leave that rinky dink truckstop even though I didn't have any hours.

Did she pick your lock? When I drove I always kept my wallet and cell phone right next to me on the cabinet.

This is why I always ran my seatbelts through my doors and ran a winch strap to both doors, so they'd hold each other shut. Worked every time. I've been jarred awake several times by people trying to break in. They usually bail as soon as they hear me shifting around inside.
