Whew, well we're both good typists lol.

If you wanna try Star Trek Online, it's free to play. You don't get all the benefits without a subscription but you get to play through the entire storyline for free, and join fleets and such. And as for having a desktop, I used to keep my gaming desktop here in the truck. The only reason I switched to a laptop is because I take it with me whenever I go home, and it got to be a real pain moving the tower, monitor, etc. every time. It was easily stored because I threw out the factory mattress here in my truck and bought a regular twin size one from Big Lots for about $70. That have me about an extra 10 inches or so of free space at the foot of my bed, and that's where I put the tower and everything. I bought one of those little TV stands from Walmart, and set it up right in front of the bunk when I had time, and put the monitor, keyboard, and mouse on it. Worked quite well, and I'd still be doing that if I didn't take my PC with me every time I went home.

You'll have to talk to your FM about dropping the trailer when you go home and bobtailing, but I doubt they'll let you do that unless you live within about 30 miles of the terminal. They won't let you deadhead very far. If I were you, I'd just offer to slip that farmer 20 bucks when I came home to park there, or make good friends with the owner of that store near you. There's lots of options, definitely ask around. But either way, don't count on getting to bobtail anywhere, it's highly unlikely they're going to let you drop the trailer anywhere.

It's very rare for us to be sent home under a load. Even though they can monitor the reefer unit via satellite, there's just too many risks involved, like a breakdown, temp problem, and if the unit is on, people will know the trailer is loaded, and that makes it a theft target, especially since meat is valuable and untraceable once stolen. So I doubt you'll have a load when you go home, especially if you stay out 3 - 4 weeks at a time and take 3 or 4 days off.

Also, I'd recommend getting a passcard for Canada. TCD has several big runs for the Hilti tool company out of Tulsa, and they're worth a lot of money and are the longest runs we have. You can get a passcard from your county courthouse, mine cost about $55 but it took about a month to arrive, so plan ahead if you can. The list of TCD Canada drivers is short, and they were so short last month I spent 3 weeks going back and forth to Canada, taking home over $1,000 each week after deductions.

As for your joints, I'd just let the ladies know that your joints pop easily and they have for as long as you can remember and not to be alarmed about it. I'm sure in their line of work they've seen many people who have joints like that, it's not uncommon.

Dont worry about caffeine or dipping, lots of drivers do that. However, be aware that there are NO nonsmoking TCD trainers last i heard, and you'll have to go out with one. So be prepared for that.

They take your BP with a regular pump cuff and stethoscope, so you should be fine there. I don't know if your pulse will be an issue after you do the stairmaster, yours does sound awful high, but I don't know what the cutoff is. Mine was hovering around 108 after I did it, and they were fine with that.

You're more than qualified for the job, you just have to get past the physical, and I think you'll be okay. Keep in mind that if you don't and they send you home, they'll tell you what you need to do in order to qualify, and there will be a bus ticket waiting for you to come back once you got things taken care of. But I'm willing to bet you'll be okay.

Anyways, feel free to ask more questions. And if you don't have a referral person yet, feel free to use me, my info is in my signature :)

I don't play online games because where I'm at I can only get satellite ISP and they have a bandwidth limit of 25GB each month, which is ridiculous for the $130 I pay per month. Sure it's at up to 12Mbps but I'd take 3Mbps or even 1.5Mbps(like it was with the old system before they launched the new satellite) with unlimited bandwidth because once you go over 25GB they reduce your speed to 256Kbps or even slower depending on traffic. Most everything I do is on the internet and I try to follow some youtube channels when I can but once they slow me down it's almost impossible to watch anything streaming. I can do my online classes when I have them but it's just too slow for gaming.

Yeah I think the farmer or the grocery store is my best bet on home time(prefer the farmer lol)

I'll look into that passcard, I have done a few runs into Canada when I was with my trainer in 2002 but I would imagine a few things have changed not to mention each company has it's own policies and procedures for that type of run.

Yeah I think when I go to get my own DOT physical done I'll make sure the doctor gives me some documentation that says I'm good to go for whatever. Do you think it would be a problem if he said that flatbed would be too much but TCD would be okay? Of course I could probably tough it out if that is all that they offered me. Over time I will get used to it and any soreness/pain will become less, just like it did at WM. My first month I hurt everyday until I started to move then it got better until they started overworking me in 2007 before I quit. Either way I plan on being more active no matter what division I get into, I would love to get back down to 230lbs or less again. Driving a cab can make you fat over 4 years.

I'm not worried about having a smoking trainer, if I start again I start again. It wouldn't be the first time lol. Hard habit to quit and stay quit on.

High is at 130 on pulse, they will stop you on a stress test if you get that high. So I'm worried about that but a stair master? What pace did you go at? Walking pace or faster?

I will keep that referral info in mind, in fact I'm going to write it down on my companies to call paper for tomorrow when I call the recruiters. Maybe if I get on we'll meet in person sometime in the future. Do you train? You should like a guy I could train with lol.

If you do train I will be starting sometime in the beginning of October after I get my money and my wife puts in her notice to quit her job.

One last thing here...are all Maverick's trucks automatics? How will that effect me in future jobs that only have manual transmissions? Can I request a manual if they have any when I go solo? I never really liked the Allison transmissions the trucks at WM have, they don't hold the truck back with heavy loads on hills, they acted just like a car transmission. I don't know if tractor automatics are different than that or not.

All of our trucks are automatics, but they have the option to be shifted manually using a lever on the steering wheel. They don't have clutches. A lot of drivers use manual shifting to improve their fuel mileage, since our bonuses here can be pretty decent. The trucks are equipped with full jake brakes and shifting manually is HIGHLY recommended on big hills, or you'll set your brakes on fire riding them downhill.

I'm not currently a trainer. I'm not eligible at the moment, I made the mistake of bumping something at a customer a couple months back. No appreciable damage, but that bars me from training for awhile. Their insurance company is very picky about their trainers.

And you can ignore the negative comments from people you see on here, Maverick has very high standards and will continue to do so. Being invited here is a major privelidge, and is NOT common, unlike other carriers. And you will never be lied to here. You may not like what they have to tell you sometimes, but it will be the truth either way. Our turnover is less than half of the industry average, and there is nowhere else I know of that pays higher than here once you've been solo for one year.

CaptainX3 speaks the truth. Some posters may be mad at 'em cuz they wouldn't hire him or something. You will see this from time to time. Once anyone is acceptable to Maverick's high standards, Maverick will give them a shot, so long as they meet the company's very stringent guidelines for hiring. And if and when this day comes, I welcome them as do all of us. But like I said before, if you get an invitation to NLR, do not pass it up or stall too long.... your spot will be gladly filled by another hopeful Maverick. And BTW BigBrett, thank you for your compliment about the drivers. We appreciate that.

I talked to a recruiter today. He pretty much said as long as I pass the physical exam I'll be okay and if any concerns about my ankle to have a doctor write up some documentation. Pretty much everything you've been telling me CaptainX3. I just need to show them my schedule C tax returns from when I drove cab to verify my contract with the cab company. Hmm, I wonder if my city cab license will work as well? I think I still have all of them from 2008-2012. Also need to send them my school transcripts to verify I have been in school since I quit the cab company. Recruiter pretty much told me after I send those documents in I just need to call a month before I'm ready to go. Hopefully I can finally get my foot securely in the door in the OTR trucking business. This would be my 3rd attempt. If I didn't need to wait for money in September I'd go now. So tired of living on foodstamps and barely having the money just to keep gas in the cars.

My Department of Insurance License worked for me along with tax returns. (To show I had been in business as a Sole-proprietor Insurance Agent for years, was only documentation I had. Thank goodness it worked!)

Well yellow cab of newark is kind of a shady cab company(probably not the only one and not the worst). But I can at least get my tax returns which have show that I was self-employed.

When I applied with Maverick, I had been self employed for two years, and I'l be honest and say I never filed any tax returns. Maverick ended up accepting a couple of signed letters from my former customers proving that I did work for them. Anything that shows you were doing something productive is usually acceptable.
