Cash on the road and who pays for what?

I don't understand you company drivers who pull money out of your pockets to pay for tolls. If my truck doesn't have ez pass or they haven't given me cash for those expenses I woild just roll up to the window and tell them, "Sorry, no cash" and they'd send the company a bill. I have never and will never pay money out of my pocket to cover an expense the company should cover.

 

I think tolls are on the verge of sparking wide-spread outrage among carriers. What these taxing authorities are doing to carriers is nothing short of extortion with where toll rates are and how much they have increased in just the last 5 years. If you consider the PA turnpike, and the phenomenal amounts of cash revenue that thing generates daily/monthly, you know less then half of that is actually used to maintain the road, where does the other half go? ... then they are already talking about the next round of increases where trucker rates will increase at much higher rates than automobile rates.

Then add in that you can not deduct toll road miles from highway use miles for apportioned use rate calculations (double taxation). Yes, in theory these costs eventually get passed onto the final consumers, but what's right about that? I suppose this post belongs in a separate rant thread but since someone brought up tolls here ...

Working for a smaller carrier who does not use EZ pass and and your load forces you use a toll road to get to it. Yes I always avoided if I could but NE it almost impossible to avoid them all, least with out going way way out of route. If the Company did not repay it I would not stayed with them long, and it was with one of my longer employment with the same company. Only left them due to breaking down weekly.

But also with that one company I would take the cash advance from the company, if I used the money for Company biz I still got it back on payday but pay with out tax taken out.

 

Looking at my Izoom pass statement for a load using the PA turnpike, this was a routed load for one of my trucks. Entered at Ohio Border and exited at Wilkse-Barre - $229.95

Now this same truck did a HH load for the same customer at the beginning of April, the toll for that load was $1563

So I'm thinking that if you run in PA or the NE, you need to either have some cash or get an Izoom pass

 

The one who said always be an hour early for a delivery, make sure you can first, some companies will fine you and issue a service failure for being early, some are strict and want you at an exact time, no earlier and no later. Have had a couple loads where they strictly tell me dont go more than 15 minutes early, now there are some receivers who love you being early, you just have to learn which do and dont.

 

i've had walmart make me leave because i was 35min early, they only allow 30min, they let me in to turn around then i went out to the street turned around and pulled back to the gate, guard got PO and started saying I TOLD YOU NO MORE THAN 30min EARLY.....!!! i just looked at him and said i'm 29min early.... he was not happy

 

I was told target is really bad and will fine you

 

I delivered to a Home Depot once and was informed by dispatch that if they spotted my truck before my delivery time it'd be a service failure.

 

oh wow I never got in trouble with home depot but I normally dont arrive too early, 20min or so. Sat near one home depot where they gave me a strict 20:22 delivery time, I get there and they guy told me I had a 6 hour window.....
got to love when they do that.
