Congrats guys... I know you will do well with Werner! Good luck in school and keep us posted here on your progress!

For the record.... The JIT runs suck. I much prefer runs that leave a couple of hours a day to spare. You can use them to catch a couple of hours of sleep or stop somewhere nice to eat, etc. The JIT runs often leave you not even enough time to shower.... :biggrin_25510: but you gotta take the good with the bad I guess.

After talking things over I think we have decided to do the regular team driving. Jeremiah said he does not want every run to be a JIT run. We don't want to get burnt out right from the start.

I am find my anxiety level begin to rise each day as I get closer and closer to Monday. I just hope that I can do this. I have so many people thinking that I am crazy for doing this and that I don't know what I am getting into. I just hope to prove them wrong. Now my immediate family (my parents, Jeremiah's parents, one of my sisters, and Jeremiah's brothers and sister are all gung ho and know we can do it) but there are the skeptics out there and my older sister thinks that I am making a huge mistake. We had asked her for help with paying for school and she wouldn't help us out. I think she thought if she didn't help then we would just drop this whole idea. She was shocked when we told her that we were going with Werner and going to their school.

Well we will just have to show 'em!

It sounds like you just got a bad trainer. That is the only problem I have heard about Werner. If you don't get a good trainer you are up #### creek. I am going with Werner this spring cause my dad has been driving with them solo for 6 years and hasn't had a complaint yet. His dispatcher said she can hook me up with a good trainer. From what I gather, most companies cater to teams because they make more money from them, but if you are going solo a dedicated route seems to be a better way to go. Just my 2 cents. Good luck to and your hubby Sassy.

yea your right there , i was there to learn but almost anyone can drive a truck down the highway, he wouldnt let me back,do qualcom,or anything else other than drive the truck for 11 hours, in which i am very capable of backing and the other duties as well. all i did was make him good money and was used by werner , not trained as i was promised.another thing is how can someone with 6 months experience be proffessional enough to train rookies? i have drove all types of heavy equipment in my past , but was very nervous running down a highway ,snow covered at night with a trainer sound asleep. safety my #%$.

My anxiety levels were pretty high up until the day I started driving. As soon I stepped behind the wheel all of it went away. I think it was just all the nervousness thinking about driving and all the planning and such. I bet it is even harder for you with all the ups and downs you have had. Don't worry it will go away! Soon, the truck wont seem so big, the cars will just seem smaller! :biggrin_2559:

Personally, I think we are all a little crazy for doing this. :biggrin_25523: It goes against pretty much everything America tells you that you need or that you feel pressure to have. Big House, kids, fancy car, good job with the whole 9-5 bore, you know the same freakin routine day in and day out. I realize that most have some of this already but when you only see it once a month or so it is a bit weird and against what is the "Norm," in America.

Just don't listen to those who aren't supporting you, they just wouldn't be cut out for this lifestyle and that is all they see.

You can do it girly!!!! Oh and I agree with the JIT all the time, you can always get your feet wet and decide later.

We watched a few safety videos today at the end of our 1st week of class here at the community college this week...they were all made by some of the "popular" or big trucking companies. The instructors all which have been OTR drivers at one time or other have their opinions of good and bad companies.

I showed the instructor this website today about some of the Werner threads and he looked at me and said: "****, if you have 15k employees and 150 of them come by a forum to complain in this day and age where internet access is available to everyone when someone has a complaint because they had to do some work, or always didn't get exactly get what they wanted and weren't treated like royalty, what do you expect? They didn't do this or that for me, they didn't kiss my *** when i bent over. Big companies will ALWAYS have more complainers than small ones just because of sheer numbers." That's what he had to say and to a certain point, he's probably right.

It's pretty obvious when most people are complaining. Half of the posts on Werner (and alot of other companies for that matter) have looked like nothing but whining to me. I went to a local truckstop last night on my way back from class and talked to 2 Werner drivers, both are very happy with the company. If you feel that it's the right fit for you and hubby, good luck to you and wish you well. You read more negative than positive on the internet these days. If you could filter a forum and get a percentage of "I can't" and "I won't" vs. "I like" phrases in all posts I wonder what the ratio would be in percentages of the first two phrases vs. just the 3rd one??? LOL!!! Think and act positive and you will do well no matter what choice you make. And if that doesn't work, then you can come here and tell your story, and move on to the next company...lol!
Good luck, seriously, I wish you well...later.

    Hello guys and gals,

We left Texas today around 3pm and we are now in a motel in Wichita, KS. We decided since we left so late that we would find a place to stay half way to Hastings. Tomorrow we have a 4.5 hour drive...not too bad at all. The only thing that sucks is that our car does not have cruise control. I drove the whole time today and my leg is kinda sore. I guess I should just look at that as exercise for my "trucking leg".

Oh and it is definitely cold here. Yesterday in Texas it finally warmed up to the 60's (previously it has been in the 30's) and today was a beautiful day. We get here and it is currently 26 degrees and there is still snow on the ground. The roads are perfectly clear, there is just residual snow in the shady areas. But that is still snow in my book! (Spoken like a true Texan)

I will let you all know tomorrow when I get to Hastings and can report on the condition of the dorm room. Take care!!!

Depending upon the loads you are assigned you may in fact be able to park the truck each night for a few hours.

My wife and I are doing that but we are on a dedicated run where the loads are not that time sensitive. She drives about 5 to 6 hours from around 8 or 9 am and then I take over and drive for another 8 to 10 hours (depends on the time of day and if I feel tired). We are able to shut down the truck for anywhere from 5 to 8 hours each day and still put in 15 to 18 hours of driving per day.

Of course we are not driving 1000 miles per day, (only around 850 to 950 usually) but thats plenty for us and we are happy with it. Of course splitting .47 cpm for a 5200 mile round trip aint bad either and we still get paid for drop and hooks on both ends which is pretty rare out here.

We are here. Got in today around 3pm. Our room is AWESOME! This is a brand new dorm and we have our own room with bathroom, 2 vanity areas, 2 desks, 2 closets with built-in drawers, and to top it off a 42 inch flatscreen with DirectTV. We walked into the room and were shocked. It is 100 times nicer than the motel we stayed in (and where we stayed was pretty nice!). I will post some pictures below.

We have met a few people and we went as a group over to the school cafeteria for dinner tonight. I had a salad, fried butterfly shrimp and french fries, and cherry pie for dessert. Jeremiah had a salad, a mexican style rice casserole (he said it was delicious) and 2 shrimp, and then he had some chocolate mousse cake thing, it looked good too.

After the superbowl we are going to head into town and run to the Wal-mart. We brought our sleeping bags but I want to go get some fitted sheets for the mattress and then I will use the sleeping bag as a comforter. One of the guys we met is from Wisconsin and he perviously went to Swift's school. I don't know his story yet, but he said so far this like heaven compared to what he went through before. Just the fact that we are feed everyday and that the food rocks is a huge plus, and that is before even mentioning the room.

Breakfast is at 7am tomorrow and then class starts at 8am. We are supposed to all meet as a group in the morning and then head over to eat. So far everyone has been very nice and accomodating. No complaints so far but we have just begun!!

    Take Care!
