So all those trips I took to disneyworld from chicago, when I saw the pilots walk down the gangway and get on the plane.... Somehow they jumped off, kicked the tires, checked the oil, inspected all the aircraft grade hardware on all the moving parts? In the 10 minutes from the time I saw them go through the door till we boarded?

The pilots of the Asiana flight that crashed don't even have to take a drug test after since they are international!

Board early or pay attention next time you are waiting to board. Watch the pilot, copilot, and engineer do a walk around with a clipboard.

So holding a clipboard equals a hands on pre-trip?

Walk around and look at a plane that is 15-20 feet above you? How much can be checked doing that?

Most experienced drivers build up a great deal of overconfidence after time, this can become real DANGEROUS. So just keep on Doing What U Do !

When I had a nice truck in my possession, I would lift up the trailer, and back under just enough to drop the trailer down on top of the fifth wheel. Then I make my connections. I did this with newer fifth wheels and trucks, just to keep grease from getting all over the place.

You are right safety comes first. I'm just not sure why you are equating not not being safe and knowing if the trailer you are hooking to is at the right height. If you don't know or cant tell, get out and check.
