I don't know about New Penn, but I know that they have destroyed USF Holland. Holland had an excellent reputation for service and claims. That was the reason why Holland had the shippers and could command the rates that they did. YRC "Yellowized' them and now they are just like the rest, and losing market share. The YRC CEO might be one of the worst things that ever happened to the LTL industry. He may end up costing the industry over 100,000 good paying jobs (drivers/dock/managers/back office) before he is done.

I have been on the call in list(2 hour) since the middle of March, when there was 14 guys laid off. Since the 1st of April I have been working 50-60 hrs per week. and recently have been running out of hours to work.(can only work 10 hrs some days)
1/3 to half of the freight on my daily peddles is from Holland, the Holland customers are from what I hear are very impressed with our service meaning we do what we say and arn't bull sh*ting.
YRC management seems to have left us alone since we make money for them.
Thats about all I can say at this point

FedEx became a LTL company long before they bought Watkins. Remember they bought American Freightways first.

I am saying a prayer for the Teamsters. I may be wrong, but I believe that if they ever close down, the pay for non-union will be horrendous. I hope we never find out, but I wonder what the union haters will think if they are working for 20 cents a mile and no benefits offered at all.

I recall one time a Consolidated Freight driver refusing to cross my picket line. The guys in the just turned non-union welding shop had to carry huge panels that weighed hundreds of lbs. all the way up a hill to get to the shop with them. The driver told me about a casual job at Consolidated. I really hated it when Consolidated closed down. Really nice guys there. Helped me keep the gas on and food on the table during a long strike in my local union back in the day.
