martin what the guy mentioned about mercer was you could do ten grand gross at mercer with your eyes closed, which you can. what you should really do is further your posts by explaining the driver in question had been with mercer for a while and quite simply lived in an area where mercer doesn't have a lot of freight. his overall mileage avg was brought down by long deadheads to leave home and by his own admission quite often d/h home a very long ways. my avg d/h leaving home is less than 60 miles but then I live just outside savannah,ga not middle of nowhere,iowa.
so give the whole story, and look at the entire story.

I have heard from a few of their drivers, and not good earnings IMHO. Granted, could be the exception and not the rule, although I do see them sitting a lot when I am just about anywhere in the West.
$10k a month? Should be easy anywhere IMHO, so kind of a moot point
I normally bounce @200 miles, or more, on average, for my home time, and averaged a LOT more CPM than the person in question. Hell, it's @350 miles for me to get to my combines from the house, and still average a LOT more than figures I was told, and with no trailer to pay for.
Point taken though regards Mercer. Glad its working out for you.

Thanks for all the great info fellas. I will try to decide from my research either a Cascadia or a fitzgerald midroof with the series 60 to get my fuel mileage. I am a bedder now and would like to stay that way but maybe reefer if the money is right. I'm leaning more toward the fitzgerald truck but don't know how hard financing would be on a used glider with only 4500 down? Anyway, keep posting with info and I will keep reading and asking questions. This is good therapy..

Not trying to be an a hole but you really know how hard it is to find a Fitzgerald glider?? And a midroof is not the best spec for pulling reefers. Most places require 20% down most used gliders are around the $40-$50,k price range and are really had to finance

A glider is a glider, Fitzgerald's are only ONE company that put them together. Hell most Freightliner dealers can and do put them together.
I saw a couple of used ones when I was looking at replacing the last truck.

that argument seems to be over a lot of people heads.
plus, since we pull flats. we're not going to get good fuel economy anyways. so, since we suck at fuel. i'm putting the hammer down and making all the revenue i can make. cuz at the end of the year. i've only lost $100 in fuel savings.
and for those of you that don't understand. flatbed freight is NON aerodynamic. which gets worse when the loads are wider then the truck. -
I've stopped trying to argue that point with people. The best speed balancing time and fuel mileage seems to be around 65-67 mph on average.
I will go faster if there's a need for it and the speed limit allows for it, otherwise, I just putter along at 66-67 (13th) or at 55-57(12th) or whatever the speed limit might be.
My truck seems to really like that 1425 RPM range, so that's where the cruise gets set. Slower, I fall on the hills and have to down shift, faster, and it just seems to be pointless.RedForeman and MJ1657 Thank this. -
