Why should you stay where you at if you only make 494$ a week here is my advice, Start looking for a different company where your insurance cost could be cheaper for you and your family with a decent pay plus decent hometime because you need to be there for your kids sometimes.

You would be better off working construction on the road. You would make more money and have more ins. options. I know this is a trucking forum but you have a lot on your plate.

What type of freight do you like to haul (van or reefer)? And where do you want to run? Once you figure this out look for the companies that run in that area and talk to them. I know this sounds lame but it is the only way to figure some things out. I don't know how long you are gone now but as someone stated before that is not a decent salary and if you are staying away from home any amount of time it is costing you a small fortune to live on road.

For Anthem Blue Cross where my husband is varies according to the deductible rate you choose.. For a family low deduct is $300 a week; with higher deduct it is around $160 a week; with 1 yr service it is reduced $100 per week. Vision and dental are separate.

Do you know if other drivers are having to harass dispatch for a loads or is the usual custom for the company, or is it just this guy. It is a pain having someone like that who does not look out for you or his company. If you are running reefer div, do you get dry van loads also, this is how a lot of reefer companies run, esp when it is a slower time of the year.

Congratulations when the new baby is gets here. It is going to be busy when you are home, even our grandkids are po'd when paw paw is gone. He doesn't come home a lot of times for 3vmo.

Also consider the time gap between jobs. It could take a few weeks to get that steady check coming in, what with quitting, going for orientation, getting your truck and getting a load and getting your paperwork in and getting your first check.

Man, I don't know how anyone can survive on 500 a week with 3-4yrs exp. unless you got tickets or an accident then maybe. I would get a hazmat, doubles endorsement jump into LTL linehaul like Old Diminion or find a fuel, or tanker company. I take home 915 a week and I'm not with a high paying LTL company and only been here a little over a year. When I was bottom guy I still took home atleast 750 a week on bad weeks. I'm home for the weekend and home every other night. It's nights but I'm willing to adapt for better pay. Fuel or chemical tanker is another good field you'll make atleast 60k a year likely 70k. Fuel is nights chemical is likely days. Fuel hauler and chemical companies will train too.

You can easily land a LTL linehaul gig or fuel tanker gig.
