    Hi everyone,
I am brand spankin' to the whole world of trucking. I am a single, overweight, newly graduated (got my bachelors in May) female and am having a lot of trouble of getting a real job. I was wondering if being quite overweight but healthy in other respects (no high blood pressure-yet, no heart issues, no diabetes etc) will affect my ability to get a trucking job. I am working on losing it but it will be a journey and unfortunately most places I have a decent chance with because of experience/education I don't and I am more and more sure that it is due to my appearance. I have plans to go to law school in 5-10 years unless trucking becomes something I can't part with. I was wondering if there are any others out there that have no dependents, or bills and if so, is the money pretty decent? I will only have a student loan payment and a small monthly fee for my pets to be taken care of by my family. I would love any advice you guys have for me, and I have decided if I can't get a local job by mid-August (been looking since early May) I will Attempt to get a loan for the CDL classes at my local community college as I have decided that I don't want to be locked in with a company, not that I job hop I just don't like the idea of a contract. Obviously if I can't get the funds to go I will research best paid CDL companies.
Oh, and trucking has always been something I've thought about, I love to drive and travel so this isn't completely out of the blue.

    Thanks for any advice/insight!

If you can pass a DOT physical, you will be OK. Due to your weight you may be checked for sleep apnea. Some companies have additional requirements other than passing the DOT physical, such as duck-walking to get under a trailer or heart rate tests; not all companies do this.

The community college CDL training is a good choice & there are some companies that reimburse you for the tuition. Central Refrigerated and Swift have good CDL schools; if those interest you, ask about the weight and if that will affect your application in a negative way. Otherwise, many companies will hire you from the community college CDL school; it's just a matter of getting many applications out there.

Check Panther Expedite website. They hire new CDL holders to drive cargo vans, with no experience.
