    Hi.
I've driven trucks for 5 years now. Currently I'm an owner operator at a small company in IL, but I'm not really happy with the pay and everything else. I'm averaging at around $1.15 after FSC, and the thing is they charge for trailer rent, parking spot, insurance, plates, etc. They also don't have benefits. I'm moving to CA and I want to choose a different company. I've been looking at Schneider, Prime Inc., Swift (worked there as a company driver before), and Land Star. I need a company with good pay, benefits, and no layover. Home time is not very important. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

    Check Careerbuilder website.
Enter the town/city in CA you plan to move to.
Comtrak has terminals in Stockton and Ontario.
Greatwide has terminals all over the USA.

Benefits for O/O are likely not provided. Some of the larger companies have programs that can get you a better rate but from what I have seen it is typically the big mileage based companies. You can likely net better with better pay and still having to pay a little more for insurance.

is he an O/O cuz it sounds like he's a L/O. and the companies he wants to work for. and the pay that he's working for.

if he owned his truck. why consider the megas, he mentioned landstar but he needs to own his truck. if he owned his truck. wouldn't landstar and mercer be better then schneider and prime?

you know how a L/O always gets confused with the term O/O. :biggrin_25519:

L/O makes it sound like your leasing the truck.

I am going to "lease" on with landstar shortly but i will be "operatong" the truck I "Own" theirfore I'm an o/o. It doesnt matter if I have my own authority or not. I'm still an O/O (or will be in 2 weeks)

I decided on landstar since you can choose your own freight, were you want to go, what you will haul etc. I can also get home whenever i want, and choose lighter freight if i want. Physical damage insurance is pretty cheap through them as well. (1000/year for a 25,000 dollar truck)

Swift doesn't have a very good reputation.
I don't know who to recommend, but tanker companies often pay better than other types of freight. I know a guy with shwerman (?) . He told me he is averaging $1.67/ mile all miles. That includes all pay.
