It varies by carrier. For carriers like Quality Carriers using the XRS system there are no upfront equipment or installation charges , just a $35 a month service fee. Initially the app was loaded into company provided Blackberrys the drivers already had that had replaced Qualcomms. Now QC and others are switching to a "bring your own device" policy where the app is loaded to smartphones owned by the driver.
While drivers may lose income using e-logs carriers show increased profitability by lower cost to monitor logs and the ability to observe drivers' speeds and idling.25(2)+2 and landstar8891 Thank this. -
This is why i get so upset with ''drivers''...The drivers think they are being a ''good boy'' and a ''patriot'' for drinking the kool aid. They think somehow the company is going to give them some type of better posistion and some type of raise...NOT NOT NOT
In reality they are getting RIPPED OFF and marched off to the slaughter house for there demise.I have watched this over and over.. -
When the driver crossed the median in KY on I-65 and killed 10 Mennonites in a van the driver's wife spoke in his defense in an article but what she really did was prove he took a break less than 10 hours while his truck was in the shop and was past his 14th hour when he crossed the median. This is one case were e-logs would have saved 10 lives.
The same is true with the 6 children burned alive by a Crete driver whose dispatcher knew he was seriously violation HOS.
Then there's the United Van Lines driver that killed the state trooper in IL .
Don't say e-logs won't save lives. Are they unnecessary for 95% of the drivers out there? Maybe , but we all pay for the sins of the minority.jxu417 Thanks this. -
And it sounds like all three got pressure from the office to run even though they knew they shouldn't have.
Just shows they are addressing a symptom and not the issue.Last edited: Jul 14, 2013

Marched off to the slaughter house? LOL. You certainly do not lack in the area of linguistic hyperbole, do you?
landstar8891 Thanks this. -
Kind of hard to "rush" and speed when you are driving a castrated and governed truck that can barely pull itself out of the parking lot and get up to speed now is it?
I pull into a major metro area, I get passed by a LOT of the goverened trucks that are still running on cruise at 62 mph when the speed limit is 55 MPH.Dominion Transportation and volvodriver01 Thank this. -
The point being made is being there is a eobr telling a rested driver he has to stop instead of delivering. Meanwhile I with paper logs drove the extra 30 min unloaded and reloaded the next moring.

There have been plenty of times I have been late because a shipper released a trailer late . Several times it was because the carrier didn't allow split sleeper. I let dispatch know as soon as I left the shipper the load was going to be late.
