To drozzer or other current WM drivers.
A simple question. Where are you guys that do not go home each day taking a shower at? Are they available at the DC?
For the past 7 years I have held a job that allows me to shower at home each day, so that is one the the simple things I take for granted I would need to revisit should I work as a OTR driver for WM. I live 78 miles from the DC in Sealy, so going home each day would not be desired even if it were ever available.kee1227 Thanks this. -
I will look for your photo. Only difference in my profile photo is that I do not have a mustache now.drozzer69 Thanks this. -
Be safe out here. I will keep my eyes open for you at Sealy tomorrow.drozzer69 Thanks this. -
The DC's have showers. If you want to shower every day, you should be able to. If not every day, every other day. They prefer that you take your layover in your truck, and they pay you to do so.
I understand this well. When I was hauling propane, I often had my layover at my domicile. After trying to go home a few times, I determined that I got more and better sleep staying in the truck. I also got moving faster. When you go home, you deal with family, and all that this entails. You have dinner with them, and "family" time. You go to bed with your spouse, and you #### chat (or other). In the end, I either went back to work with 5-6 hours sleep, or took longer than a total of 10 hours. So, I stopped going home until my reset.
As for your pretrip, one guy described it best. Pretrip until they are sick of you pretripping. This is what I did. I found a couple of items on the truck that no one else had seen, and I was the last interview for the day (they did 3). This included one spot where the airline was rubbing. We busted out some tools and fixed it on the spot.
I forgot to say, Good Luck driver !!!! It sounds like you are a good fit.kruz1980, Buzzard2157, luvtotruck and 2 others Thank this. -
Thanks! With the Texas heat in the summer and sweating, I will definitely need to shower each day!
I agree how much of your rest time can be lost when home with family. It happens with me at my current job now. That does not even include the 3 hours R/T commute I would have going back and forth to the Sealy DC. 5-6 days away is not long. I can see my wife and kids on Skype when needed too.
Thanks for the tip on the pre-trip. Better to do far more than not enough! I can think of a few things that rarely get checked, but could be defective. -
Don't worry, with the A/C in the trucks, and the APU, you will always be cool and comfy. LOL
Arizona for me, so I certainly know a lot about the heat............... and with the monsoons here now, the humidity also.
Walmart is all about the safety. One tip for the test drive: Do not curb a tire.luvtotruck Thanks this. -
Extreme, you don't understand. I melt like a snowman in the heat here! LOL! My sweat glands get going at even a touch of heat! LOL!
I am a Yankee (but Texan by choice), so that is why the heat melts me quickly. The cold weather on the other hand suits me pretty well, though I prefer 70-ish weather whenever possible. -
Don't we all?? LOL
I have an expression that I use for when I spend a lot of time outside right now, and I hope it offends no one. I always say "I'm sappin like fat Elvis."interpreter Thanks this. -
Exactly! I am even sweating in my profile picture here!
