My house is quit a ways from he DC (120 miles each way), and sits at 5100ft elevation. I'm becoming so climatized to the heat down here, that I am becoming a wuss at home. LOL

Sure hope you guys realize how good you have it living so close to the DC. I live 270 miles from where I will be working. And I'm glad to live in NY (though I'll be working out of Tobyhanna, PA). I'm not one for heat either! I melt watching a travel ad for the South!

All GM DC's have showers with supplied towels etc. Most grocery DC's do not provide showers(I think, maybe some do now) either way when you get hired on you will get a company credit card and you can use that to take a shower at a truckstop if you want.

TomofTx iam also a yankee too. I handle ok with the heat for about the 15 min I am out the truck to swap trailers. I live 70 miles away in Spring so our commute is about the same. As stated above, all DCs have showers and towels provided. Added bonus our grocery dc in New Caney has one shower and towels as well. Most likely you will be hired on as extra like me. Don't worry, they will keep you busy for 5 straight days. Only thing is the slip seating. Its a pain I know cause I am doing it as we speak. But given the time, it will change. If you never haxd a APU before, your going to love it! Driver comfert is a big thing here. Well going to bed now. Have to see what I get for the morning commute as I have no load now.

I can handle the slip seating as a trade off for other good things, especially knowing it may not be forever. I will just travel much lighter as I do at my current job. I slip seat 5 days a week.

Well, today is the day. Interview in about 4 hours. I slept good and feel more excited than nervous. A lot of rain North of Houston moving into the area, so that could be a factor in being able to do the pre-trip and road test portion. I will be ready to be out in the rain if needed. Not sure if the safety dept will feel the same! :)

It was pouring rain when I left this morning around 830. I won't be back until after you are done so hope it went the you expected!

NYVET, I am looking forward to seeing how your first day went! Is your brain on overload yet? Lol

I just missed you. I arrived early before 8am seeing the weather that was coming. I did see your photo on the wall (wearing striped shirt). :)

Interview went great! I passed interview, pre-trip and road test. Before I left, Kay had me sign a few release forms to check my MVR and employment history/safety record at my current job. She said I could hear back as early as a few days or so.

I really enjoyed the whole day, especially the time with Tom doing the pre-trip and road test. Every single person at the DC was friendly. What are they putting in the coffee there!? :)

Fortunately, the rain held off during the time outdoors at the DC. Only trouble all day was coming home. There was a truck wreck on the Beltway near 288 that shut the tollway down, so I was delayed about 45 minutes getting around it. :)

I like reading this thread from time to time... It just reminds me about the "good" time I spent going to Walmart DCs when I was in the WM dedicated account. I know I will be passing by Walmart trucks and will try to wave at them as I used to when I had a Walmart trailer... not any more... :biggrin_2557: I am glad for all of you, new Walmart drivers. :biggrin_25519: And hey, TomOfTx, don't sweat man, you will do just fine. It seems that you have all you need to get the job. No worries. Best wishes! :biggrin_25519:

Well, first day of orientation and thanks to drozzer (what's your real name? I'm Jim) I already had a good feel for whatwas coming. It's DEFINITELY a lot of info! Amazing how they treat you! Really really amazing stuff they covered. Today erased any doubts I may have had.

TomOfTx, congrats on the first step, the second step should come without a problem. Took them 2 weeks and 1 day to call me for the second (the job offer). Before you know it you'll be starting orientation (though it'll seem like a year LOL). Best of luck!
