I can't believe this is actually a suggestion.:biggrin_25513:But I will stop here on that subject, before I piss you off.... because no offense, but that's just simply careless.

I was just watching the news, and thought the record high profits for Exxon Mobil would be an appropriate thing to add on here.:biggrin_25521:

Hey Prisoner,Im just Happy your intrested in fuel conservation. Like Mike Tucker Huckabee said"To play you got to get on the field and get muddy. If your gonna watch and see,,buy a ticket and sit in the stands."Intentional drafting is an everyday fact of life, like it or not. The futureistic drawing of the Wall mart truck is very wild.I saw it in popular mechanics magazine.

Howdy Longhorn, I spoke to the Volvo dealer in Denver today (2/1) and got real excited by what he was telling me about the fuel economy & the tranny "thinking" for you re: terrain, headwind, load, etc. Sounds great. But I'm thinking maybe this is too new & they don't know what the problems are yet, but then I hear they've been running these in Europe since '02 - so it's a proven tech, even tho' they're new here in the U.S.

So yes anything else you can share would be greatly appreciated. And of course, hoping to hear more positives, but will accept the sobering negatives if there are any. Thanks!

Volvo can't keep the electronics they already have working. I don't think I'd be spending my money untill it's been in the field a few years

    oh man, that's sick.

Anyways. on my last truck. It was an 04 T800 with a c15 cat 10 speed and 3:70 rears. I only once was able to get that truck over 5mpg. it averaged 4.68 and pretty much stayed right there whether I ran 80 with 80k pound or if I ran 65 empty. I swear to god, it didn't matter. Actually running out west one time I was in a hurry and ran 75 to 78 the entire way through WY, NV and CA. and it droped down to 3.9mpg that was my worse. We bought this truck just as the ultra low sulfer diesel started. The one time I got better mileage with it was when I ran a gallon of Lucas in the tanks and I actully averaged 5.7mpg with that tank of fuel and that was running MO, AR, TN and MS. kinda hilly but not bad. I was driving this as a company driver so I wasn't about to dip into my own pocket for lucas if they didn't want to pay for it

Yea this can add a possible .03 to .04 per mile to your profits..Cheaper pump price and No card charge..Its risky to have cash all the time like that, but folks do it all the time...You just have to be carefull when you buy on a cash basis..

just a side note... you can "safely" draft and save fuel also...

no not 6' off the guys bumper... that is dangerous...

but you can follow a 100 feet back and still get some benefit. especially if you're following a bull hauler... man those things drag alot of air with them...
