I have no problem with the onboard computer in my company truck. I go by the rules and to date have had no problems. But, once in a while, the onboard computer goes wacky, and I have to call dispatch to get them to fix it, and of course, I have to use paper log to run. If I get stopped by the DOT man, I am not sure how they will respond to the problem I just described. Time will tell, and I will post what happens.

You better go back to school. If more trucks were needed as you suggest carriers would have the expense of adding more trucks. Drivers would get less miles at the same pay. § 392.3Ill or fatigued operator.No driver shall operate a commercial motor vehicle, and a motor carrier shall not require or permit a driver to operate a commercial motor vehicle, while the driver's ability or alertness is so impaired, or so likely to become impaired, through fatigue, illness, or any other cause, as to make it unsafe for him/her to begin or continue to operate the commercial motor vehicle. why cant you fools understand this,we or most older experienced drivers got into trucking for the freedom of not punching clock,now most have always been truck drivers,this is not i cant find work so ill be a truck driver,for me its all i ever wanted to do,so it was NEVER work for me didnt matter how many hours i ran i didnt care i was doing what i loved.you people who claim to be drivers now want to put your few hours in live in truck eat at buffet get fatter than you already are hit everything in 5 square miles,hold up traffic piss off general public cuz your finally in something you can do it.you all talk about the big one {accident} like its a fact of life well its not,read the crap on here. read the [i had 4 accidents in 6 months they fired me stories on here,you have got to be kidding me.finally all you who talk bout outlaw drivers if you werent there you have no Right to talk bout them,you are talking out the side of your mouth.we had respect by the law and general public,get caught running 100 in truck today grab your paperwork walk back to cop car he is smiling you talk he right you something you can live with.today with the way they look at us...never happen.we were safe,i felt safe running 2 lane at 3am in morning with fellow drivers comming at me ....today no

I get what you're saying. I recently retired. I drove every winter through quite a bit of snow and never had an accident. I counted not only on my driving skill but the skills of other drivers on the road. The last few years I had less and less confidence in other drivers. Last year I saw several 30+ vehicle pileups. The risk goes up , the pay doesn't.
EOBR's require less time to monitor logs so people in some safety departments have to justify their existence checking speed , hard braking, idling , cruise control use , and more so they can find some type of "violation".
I didn't have to drive either. I'm qualified for other careers that pay the same or better. I drove because I enjoyed it but the joy is gone replaced by harassment. I didn't need it. I have too much self respect to have my every move dictated by a bunch of ignorant desk jockeys.volvodriver01, snowblind, DrtyDiesel and 1 other person Thank this. -
I love trucking, I live for this job and lifestyle. I'm on elogs but they don't micro manage here like they did when I was at roehl.
I wish I was back on paper only for ease of use, not cheating. I don't care to be restricted when I start my day. As far as going on duty at 7am then at 715 realizing nature is calling. On paper I would just scrap it or back it up to off duty. Not with my elogs, you go on duty, it starts your day. Oh well, I'm hoping if elogs get found to be unneeded by a court system so that no one will be required to use them then we can go back to paper. Our owner operators run paper logs, company drivers run xata elogs.

Sure they can. I forgot to go to off-duty once when I stopped and kept the truck running. Racked up 45 minutes of drive time sitting in a parking spot. One call to the log department and it was changed to off duty. This was on QC.DrtyDiesel, volvodriver01 and MNdriver Thank this.

CORRECT, it CAN be edited, BUT it also has to be signed off on by the S/A and it is automatically noted and WILL stand out like a sore thumb when audited.
Now, with that being said, how many S/A's that you know are going to willing do that AND have to sign their name to it if it isn't true?
Besides, it ONLY works, IF the truck has not moved and it is a genuine mistake, because other wise, once the truck moves any real distance your mileage and GPS points will show it.
At least that is how ours works.
