There is no physical way to inspect a truck completely AND safely for less than 30 minutes. PROPER air tests alone are 15 minutes to fully complete if done correctly.

So anyway you do it, someone is lying in the log.

Post-trip is nothing but completing a REPORT...

So mandating a 15 min pre and post trip is simply a company MANAGEMENT decision again.

There is 30 minutes you can give back to your drivers. Again. A control issue.

In a compliance review when they see flagging a PTI(among other things) they start looking at other times more closely.

I have had this discussion with the inspector that will do my audits.

I've asked him the same question already. He can't show me the regs either. Even he admits, as you are saying, to them, it's their "redflag" But there is no legal basis for it. It's in their training curriculum.

    pot kettle

    Kettle pot.

Stand up for the company then. Comply with the regs and stop hiding behind "fear" and what ifs. THAT is management's responsibility.

So WHY create waves? I just don't get the need to stand yourself up on that soap box, beat your chest and poke your finger in the Auditor's face.

I have bigger fish to fry than picking a fight for just the sake of I'm right and your wrong.

You own your own truck, you do it however you see fit, I own my trucks, I'll have MY guys do it as I see fit, I pay the bills around here, and MY name is on the door, and MY ### is on the line.

If you see that as a "control issue" then that is your prerogative.

Then admit it for what it is.

YOU control YOUR company as YOU see fit.

stop trying to pass it off as regulations and LEGALLY required when it's not. It's YOUR management and business model. Nothing else.

Absolutely I control my company as I see fit, isn't that kinda the point of being "self-employed"? I guess I still don't understand your angst with my operation?

If you want me to call it company policy, fine, it's company policy, but it's company policy BECAUSE that is what I am comfortable with.

    Were you parents overbearing?

How would you know who the compliance review auditor would be? (unless you mean a state auditor) They are randomly assigned for a compliance review. I'm pretty sure the feds have more than one in MN.

Argue during a compliance review is a futile effort. Argue the findings afterwards.
