Well I can tell you first hand that it takes very little physical labor to hook up a hose and operate controls on a tanker. I've hauled propane, butane, gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, biodiesel, ethanol, salt water, fresh water, oil, frack sand, cement and lime all in a tanker through out my years as a driver. In all those years I haven't seen anyone so old or too fat that they couldn't pull a tanker, but they could drive a truck pulling a van trailer. Unless you have a prosthesis or some major handicap, if you can do one then you can do the other. If Schneider's reasoning is that a person that isn't in good physical condition can pull a van trailer but not a tanker then they ignorant.
I understand that there are drivers that are working for Schneider that are treated fairly in their eyes and that are happy working for them. Good for you. However, Schneider does have a habit of treating some drivers like crap whether the happy employees see it happen or not. Just because you haven't experienced it first hand doesn't mean that it doesn't happen. My uncle worked for Schneider for 8 years and then he hurt his back while doing his job. At first Schneider was nice and let him work in the office, but one day after the doctor said that my uncle could never go back to work driving a truck, Schneider made up an excuse of not doing his job correctly in the office in order to fire him. It does happen and Schneider isn't the only company that has such practices. I worked for Amerigas and I thought they were a great company until the CEO announced in a teleconference that he was going to outsource the company drivers work and that the bottom line was to make sure that the share holders had money in their pockets.
The point is that when push come to shove, the company will get rid of anyone if they aren't an asset to them. Even if it means doing it unjustly. It boils down to that almighty dollar, it always has and it always will.

Been with Schneider for 9+ months and they have been treating me well. I'm sorry about the troubles you went through. Everything that you listed as for the testing and so forth, they clearly told me about it and outlined the requirements. I drive van and I'm OTR. They always got me home on time and now I'm home every weekend, shop has fixed my truck when I schedule an appointment ahead of time, otherwise its a gamble whether they can work on it. My driver managers all have been good to me and always gave me predictable routes and gave me time off when I requested it in a timely manner. I read your quote on the bottom and it can't be anymore true. "its the attitude" which makes a job successful. It just seems a season truck driver like yourself had such high expectations for a local position that when it fell through, so did your attitude. I've applied to local companies with them promising to call me back for testing......I'm not keeping my hopes up for them. Sounds like you got a sleazy recruiter wanting to make his quota and was trying to get you in for the his next paycheck. Glad your able to find a suitable gig. Keep it safe out there driver.

I would disagree with this somewhat. The biggest thing that not all van drivers can do is properly pretrip the tank. Climbing around on top is the hardest thing about it. You need good balance and flexability to check those clean out caps for gaskets and you better check them. Many tank washes leave them misthreaded or almost falling off. Unloading is no big deal. Loading hoses on a hose rack could be a problem for those without upper body strength especially when they have product in them. I have seen many drivers climb out of Schneider vans who probably couldn't do it.

Lots of people have trouble climbing on top of the tanks, more than I ever thought. As far as loose wash out caps, yeah, loose ones aren't even uncommon.

I think that is JUST AWFUL!!! Disgusting, vile thing to do to a human being!!! They KNEW he was relocating! I have a friend that like the rest of us "ex bedbuggers" is looking to exit and find a different driving career and has been speaking to that Schneider outfit,I will certainly relay this info!!

So happy to hear that another company picked you up!! Be grateful to them, they saved you from a terrible company! -
Wow! It's one thread.

I was thinking the same thing. Glad I work for Superior. Glad Romans was able to recover from getting the green weenie (or orange weenie in his case)!

blue sparrow you need to read the full post but of course since your a moron and wanna give your half cent worth and work for schneider I understand why you would defend them but that was seriously a low blow from schneider and shouldn't of never been able to have gotten away with such nonsense these companies do to get drivers
-
I almost have to say I think it might be the recruiters for the most part i had kinda a similiar scenario at jb hunt and i blame it all on recruiters there the low life scum bags

I'm glad you found a new job. I can't imagine driving all that way for a promise of a new job only to have it taken away. Anyway, I spent my first 4+ years with Schneider, 1 year otr, 6 months regional, 3 years local. Never had a problem with them.
